PURPOSE:
The Senior Process Engineer reporting directly to the department manager will provide technical expertise in all aspects of process engineering support relevant for day-to-day, medium and long term activities requiring process engineering support for the refinery. This role will adopt principles of continuous improvement to drive out waste and inefficiency and enhance profitability across the refinery.
KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support and build/maintain internal partnering relationships with other refinery departments such as Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, as well as across Calumet’s other refinery locations.
- Provides technical guidance to unit engineers on the interpretation of operating unit data and troubleshooting.
- Serve as a technical authority of operating limit and drive continuous improvement.
- Act as coach for entry level engineers on training of process engineering tools (simulation, sizing, etc)
- Take on special projects and initiatives that are strategic in nature
- Perform process design associated with refinery improvements.
- Identify and develop refinery improvement projects.
- Develop economic justification for refinery improvements.
- Prepare engineering specifications including instrument specifications, equipment specifications, construction specifications and bid packages.
- Assist with design and implementation of unit optimization initiatives including the use of Process Control
- Solicit and evaluate bids for equipment and construction.
- Monitor and evaluate process unit performance.
- Utilize simulation software to identify and debottleneck unit constraints.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years of process engineering experience (10+ years preferably in a refinery setting)
- Hands on and current experience with performing process design, emissions calculations, relief sizing and process simulation
- Expertise in fractionation and hydroprocessing would be a plus

WORK CONDITIONS:
- Manufacturing facility and office based with up to 10% travel required for business visits.
