The Business Manager will provide financial reporting, analysis and support for the sales and publishing divisions of Simon & Schuster Canada.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of annual budgets and monthly reforecasts for all P&L line items (Sales, COGS and Operating expenses)
  • Assist US accounting team with monthly close process
    • P&L review with accruals/reclasses as needed
    • Balance Sheet reserves review
    • Royalty statement review
  • Financial Reporting to both global & local senior management, including: 
    • Prepare monthly actuals vs. forecast commentary
    • Prepare monthly reforecast roll forwards
    • Review Daily Sales Reporting
    • Review Weekly Cash Forecast
  • Analyze pricing, sales and returns by customer data to support senior sales & publishing management decisions
  • Work with editorial teams to create title acquisition P&Ls, post publication P&Ls, and profitability analysis
  • Perform analyses for customer and vendor contract negotiations
  • Support accounting for Canada specific government, industry and tax reporting
  • Review and approve facilities spend requests and invoicing
  • Provide HR with payroll forecasting
  • Additional ad hoc financial analysis as needed 

 

Requirements:

  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent negotiation skills: Able to explain difficult/complex issues and, ability to locate and collect data from appropriate sources and analyze it to prepare meaningful and concise reports that summarize the information for month-end/year-end financials
  • Excellent written communication skills to convey technical accounting and budgeting issues clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to work with and build relationships with a diverse group at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a team setting; collaborates with team members across the organization
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) in English.

 

Qualifications:

·       Hold a recognized professional designation (MBA, CPA, CMA; CGA) 

·       5-10 years of professional experience in an accounting or finance role

·       Publishing industry experience and knowledge of systems (Oracle, TM1, Cognos) preferred
