Alta Material Handling is seeking a Manager of Business Development to join our dynamic team at our Livonia, MI headquarters. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Business Development team and continuing its growth. This role will focus on lead generation, developing customer relationships, and driving business growth through strategic outreach and collaboration. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, have a high volume of lead generation activity, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and Develop the Business Development Team while generating leads for assigned projects and priority areas
Lead Generation & Qualification:
- Generate and develop high-quality leads for the CRM through phone calls, emails, LinkedIn, and other outreach channels.
- Qualify leads effectively and maintain a high level of customer relationship management to ensure engagement.
CRM Management:
- Enter and maintain accurate customer contact information in the CRM as it is obtained.
- Follow up on existing leads in the CRM, ensuring timely communication and management of opportunities.
Communication & Sales Support:
- Effectively communicate Alta’s products and services to potential customers, highlighting the benefits and value proposition.
- Respond to inbound inquiries, filter calls, and direct them to the appropriate sales team members when necessary.
- Coordinate with the Outside Salesperson for larger sales opportunities, providing detailed customer information, project specifics, and timelines.
Lead Nurturing & Follow-Up:
- Actively follow up on clicks from email blasts, ad campaigns, and other marketing initiatives.
- Maintain and expand the prospect database within your assigned territory, pushing qualified opportunities to account managers for further development.
Product & Industry Knowledge:
- Continuously update job knowledge by studying new product descriptions and evolving product lines to stay informed about the latest offerings.
- Develop a thorough understanding of product lines, basic technical aspects, business cycles, and customer support.
Collaboration & Training:
- Collaborate with the regional sales team and fellow business development colleagues to share insights and strategies.
- Attend training classes and meetings to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Participate in field time with sales representatives to learn about territory, industry, and customer focus areas.
Lead Generation Performance & Reporting:
- Meet or exceed weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales and lead generation targets.
- Incorporate Alta’s Guiding Principles into all daily activities and sales efforts.
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Ensure consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance, including being ready for work at the designated start time.
- Travel 20-30% for Trainings, meetings or to work with regional sales
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or 5+ years of experience
- Skills:
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strategic, competitive, and collaborative mindset with a strong results orientation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), CRM, Zoominfo and LinkedIn
- Experience:
- Experience in lead generation, sales, or a related field
- Prior management experience in Business Development is a plus.
- Desire to develop a career in business development and sales.
- Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly uses hands, sits, talks/hears; frequently stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls; occasionally climbs or balances.
- Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly lifts up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Work Environment: Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
