Airport Ramp Agent

Job Summary

 

Ramp agents are responsible for loading and unloading aircraft baggage, guiding planes to and from their gates, operating baggage carts and performing other airplane servicing duties. Ramp agents have fast-paced careers and should be comfortable working in any weather, including rain, cold and heat. The ideal candidate is capable of working in stressful situations, under rigid time constraints, and potentially interacting with customers.

 

GAT at Hollywood Burbank Airport supports carriers including United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines and jetBlue Airways. If hired, you will be assigned to one or more of these carriers to work the flights in a provided-shift. 

 

Responsibilities for Ramp Agents

  • Safely lift, load, unload and transport baggage, mail, and cargo from aircraft to airport
  • Maintain on-time connections by guiding aircraft to and from gate positions
  • Protect baggage and other equipment from damage, loss and weather conditions
  • Drive and operate ground equipment, such as baggage tugs, cargo carts, service trucks, and belt loaders
  • Assist with record-keeping and documentation to ensure correct routing of baggage
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain safe working conditions for yourself and others
  • Communicate with managers and lead agents to manage daily schedules
  • Report equipment problems and breakdowns to facilitate fast repairs
  • Assist with aircraft cabin cleaning, including taking out trash from cabin, wiping down tray tables, vacuuming, and wiping windows, cleaning aircraft lavatories.
  • Be willing to learn how to run a flight from start to finish, including handling and understanding aircraft load sheets and utilizing airline-issued baggage scanners
  • Understand aircraft weight and balance guidelines
  • Be comfortable loading/offloading baggage inside the cargo compartment of an aircraft.

 

Requirements

 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Able to work in extreme conditions, such as hot and cold weather, as well as small spaces
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as successful completion of a GED
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs to assist with record-keeping and baggage routing
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record
  • Pass a physical agility test, depending on the airline
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to help achieve team goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, such as email and phone
  • Flexible schedule allowing work during nights, weekends and holidays
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and time management skills
  • Must work additional hours if assigned flight is delayed or returned to gate for aircraft maintenance or other similar related situations. 
  • Live Safe – Must always wear seatbelt when operating Ground Support Equipment, wear provided hearing protection when working the ramp, and not utilize Personal Devices (Phones) on the ramp near passengers or near aircraft.
  • Live Safe - Must not utilize Personal Hearing Devices (AirPods, Headphones, in-ear music devices) when working outdoors.
  • Live Safe - Must not wear hooded garnments (hoodies) when working the floor. 
  • Punctual attendance is vital to operating and meeting strict airline departure and arrival goals, therefore being on-time for work is critical to you and your teams success. 

 Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically fit to perform duties of the job including but not limited to standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time.
  • Capable of repetitively lifting up to 70 pounds in confined spaces and repetitively.
  • Must be physically fit to perform the duties of the job.
  • Willing to work outside in all types of weather conditions with exposure to loud noises.

Specific Working Hours

  • Must be able and flexible to work variable shifts, weekends, and holiday -  specific shifts to be determined.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on short notice during non-routine operations.
