Facilities/Utilities Maintenance (SugarCreek)
DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Perform routine maintenance and repairs as specified by maintenance work orders to keep plant facility and mechanical equipment operating efficiently and in a safe manner. Coordinate with Facilities/Utilities Maintenance Manager and Planner to establish maintenance schedules on various machines so as to minimize downtime on production.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete assigned maintenance work orders for all structural, electrical, and plumbing maintenance or repairs needed.
- Use various hand tools and other equipment to change air filters, assess water leaks, clear floor drains, and address other similar issues.
- Check and ensure all rytec doors are operating correctly, using troubleshooting to fix if necessary.
- Perform different functions around the facility installing energy-efficient LEDs or split-systems for heating or cooling.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary.
- Monitor conditions around the facility and premises, constantly looking for any potential issues that could arise.
- Create and manage work orders, conducting necessary maintenance or repairs as needed.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times and ensure all Maintenance Personnel are following Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times.
- Inspect, operate or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Repair machines, equipment or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
- Work on plumbing system (toilets, komodes, urinals) as necessary; replace pipes as necessary.
- Communicate Facilities Utilities Management about statuses of work order completion and of any issues may have arisen.
- Attend monthly meetings to go over trainings and discuss other related issues.
- Meet with Facilities Management Team and Plant Management to coordinate larger maintenance jobs to be completed during two-day shutdowns of the plant.
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.
- Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
- Follow Sugar Creek Packing Co. safety rules and procedures.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Degree or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Experience: 2+ years in construction, electrical, or mechanical field; vocational training preferred.
Certification or Licensure Requirements: None.
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Possess knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
- Able to communicate complex information effectively to other employees.
- Able to troubleshoot effectively to diagnose mechanical issues.
- Know how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft Office.
- Able to strictly follow any and all safety procedures and policies in place.
- Able to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Know how to operate industrial-size equipment safely and efficiently.
- Possess adequate hand dexterity to manipulate or move objects.
- Able to work well with others in a team environment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with typical maintenance positions. Employees will at times have to lift items weighing upwards of 60 lbs. Most physical activity will consist of standing/walking during the day, working on various machines, and sitting at a desk only occasionally. The use of stairs/ladders is common in performing certain maintenance or retrieving certain tools or parts. Maintenance on some machines will require bending, stooping, or crawling.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in an indoor, manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery. Very little work is performed in a comfortable, indoor, office-like facility. Some departments are colder temperatures between 30° and 40° F. Safety wear is required in manufacturing areas, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, coats and other necessary equipment.
