08600A - Technical Service Advisor

Summary:The Technical Service Advisor is a critical position within the BakeMark Marketing and Technical Services team. Must have strong work experience within various bakery operations, including small, retail bakeries or donut shops, up to large commercial bakeries or bakery departments in grocery stores. Must also have expertise in both scratch-baking and baking from mixes. Core areas of responsibility will include serving as the Technical lead on all assigned markets (branches), leading customer presentations and meetings from a product-expert standpoint, testing and analysis for comparison tests and product evaluations, recipe development efforts in conjunction with Sales, Marketing and Technical Services and acting as lead subject matter expert for BakeMark product knowledge and training activities. Upholds and complies with policies and attitudes adopted by BakeMark, following the guiding principles of best practices, as both a process and a cultural guide.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and safety rules as stated in the Employee Handbook and otherwise posted or communicated.  Exemplify the BakeMark Core Values and Ways of Working in all aspects of assignedresponsibilities, and other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Plans and leads execution of assigned technical service meetings and projects. Accountable for actively managing own schedule, as it relates to support provided to Sales and Marketing. Ensures focus is maintained on promoting the growth of the BakeMark branded product portfolio. 
  • Demonstrate and troubleshoot BakeMark products in our customer’s bakery or facility. Collaborate and assist our customers in the development and implementation of BakeMark products.
  • Leads the planning and execution of all regional training opportunities for the assigned Sales teams (branches), in both online and in-person formats. Collaborates directly with the Marketing team to ensure all content connected to training is aligned to established branded product initiatives. 
  • Supports the technical elements of the product development process, specifically testing, analysis and application. Works directly with Marketing and R&D to test and analyze product performance and target market applications. Delivers detailed reports to Marketing to ensure new product is optimized to meet/exceed local market expectations. 
  • Acts as subject matter expert for all technical insights and support related to large account management, trade events and special projects. Collaborates directly with local sales for the planning and execution phases, ensuring that the BakeMark branded product lines are fully optimized in each specific opportunity.  
  • Lead localized recipe development for the assigned sales teams (branches). Utilizes BakeMark manufactured products to develop new recipes that willhelp with the introduction and sales of BakeMark products. 
  • Follows BakeMark’s best practices in Marketing and BakeMark’s Good Manufacturing Practices and food safety rules, as well as takes responsibility for housekeeping and sanitation duties for work area and as assigned.

 

Supervision:

This position has no direct reports.

Education and/or Experience:                 

Certification from an accredited culinary or baking school is preferred. Must have at least 7 years of experience working within various bakery operational settings, as a baker and/or as a supervisor or manager.

 

Language Skills:                                                         

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business news articles, press releases, trade publications, trade journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, managers, agencies, vendors, suppliers and customers.

 

Mathematical Skills:                                                

Must be able to conduct general math related to the baking process and general business operations, including yield calculations, costing and profit analysis. Must be able to easily add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure. Must also be able to understand and calculate statistical data and business formulas, including rates, ratios, percentages, averages, basic costing & pricing, profits, margins, return on investment, etc. Ability to apply mathematical skills and concepts to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability:  

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and follow-up on a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills:                                                        
Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, and have working experience within Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with a CRM platform a plus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and engage in conversation for 8 hours or more at a time. The employee must be able to touch, taste, smell and hear at a basic level and be able to participate in food evaluations and taste tests.

 

The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds from floor level to a height of approximately 4 feet.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

Expectations are that the role will be working out in the field at least 85%. Ability to travel domestically and internationally is required, and may be up to 85%. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold, hot, wet, dry and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
