Summary:
Responsible for preparing mechanical overhauls, repairs and executing the service solutions in compliance with customer specifications and contractual agreements. This includes planning, designing tools, machines, and turbo compressors. Working on such equipment as Axial Flow Compressors, Radial Split Casing Compressors, Radial Barrel Compressors, Gear Compressors, Screw Compressors, Steam Turbines, Hot Gas Expanders, Multi-stage in line Centrifugal Compressors, Single and Multi-stage Gear Compressors.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Reads and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Supervises the installation, overhaul and repair of turbo compressors.
- Consults with customer or supervisor to plan layout of equipment.
- Consults with purchaser regarding the sequence of steps in erection, installation, inspection, start-up, dismantling, or repair of products.
- Supervises the installation of new equipment. Installs and repairs of turbo compressor parts and products.
- Studies customer blue blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures.
- Interprets drawings. Develop, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and operation of product designs.
- Installs or oversees installation of equipment according to manufacturer's specifications.
- Operates system to demonstrate equipment and to analyze malfunctions.
- Interprets maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Instructs and directs workers in servicing and repairing equipment.
- Consults with customers to explain features and on the features and function of products.
- Consults with manager to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
- Supervises workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
- Assists drafters in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software.
- Researches, designs, evaluates, installs, operates, and maintains mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Recommends designs modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Conducts research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
- Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university; or ten or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
The incumbent should have experience in a rotating equipment (Steam Turbine, Turbo Compressor and Expander) or manufacturing environment. Field Service Engineer should have at least five (5) years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- A Field Service Engineer should be proficient in the following: Solid knowledge and use of precision measuring tools, Materials and Safety, Job Planning, Rotating Equipment Mechanical Experience with disassembling and reassembling complex assemblies as the project lead, understand equipment operational requirements, training in crane and rigging and heavy lift procedures. Directs and leads other workers.
