Summary: The 1st Class Mechanic is responsible for the repair, installation, adjustment, and maintenance of industrial production and processing machinery across various industries, including power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, and pipeline distribution systems. This includes working with MAN Energy Solutions OEM equipment and third-party machinery, such as steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, and other rotating equipment.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts, repair or replace malfunctioning components, and reassemble equipment after inspections, testing, or repairs.
- Maintain the operating condition of industrial machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts. Observe and test machinery operation using voltmeters and other testing devices to diagnose malfunctions.
- Inspect, operate, and test completed machinery to ensure functionality, machine capabilities, and adherence to customer specifications. Rework, repair, and replace damaged parts or assemblies as needed.
- Position, align, and secure components for assembly manually or using hoists. Set and verify parts clearances, and ensure conformance to stock lists and blueprints using precision measuring instruments.
- Record all repairs and maintenance performed, document job activities in written inspection reports, and communicate findings to management and relevant teams.
- Read and interpret assembly blueprints and specification manuals to plan assembly or building operations. Apply knowledge of mechanics & shop mathematics to daily tasks.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib cranes safely to maneuver parts and equipment.
- Remove rough spots and smooth surfaces to fit, trim, or clean parts using hand tools and power tools.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the overall operation and maintenance of machinery.
Education:
- Associate’s Degree in a Mechanical field from a 2-year college is preferred but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent with 4-6 years of relevant experience and/or training.
Experience/Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong knowledge and use of precision measuring tools, materials, and safety protocols.
- Experience in job planning, disassembling and reassembling complex assemblies, and understanding equipment operational requirements.
- Training in crane and rigging, and heavy lift procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience working on rotating equipment such as screw compressors, axial flow compressors, centrifugal compressors, barrel compressors, expanders, steam turbines, and compressors.
- Knowledge of electrical and digital systems is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding technical documentation, blueprints, and layouts, as well as using precision measuring equipment like O.D./I.D. micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
- Ability to document job activities in written inspection reports.
- Excellent communication skills, with a strong command of the English language, both verbal and written.
- Possess a sufficient quantity of professional hand tools to perform daily assignments effectively.
