Field Service Operations - Senior Service Engineer

 

Summary: Troubleshooting, technical service and repair, planned maintenance overhaul and upgrades of engines and turbochargers manufactured by MAN and affiliated companies.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provides troubleshooting, technical service maintenance, overhauls, repair, and upgrades of MAN engines and turbochargers and affiliated companies on seagoing vessels and power plants.
  • Provides technical support and recommendations to the customers and service program information including following-up previously visited vessels.
  • Monitors the work performed by outside contractors during the service of our Engines.
  • Assists and participate in workshops overhauls.
  • Maintains a good business relation and communication with all customers while performing all duties.
  • Assists in innovating and developing customized product for the customer.
  • Requires intensive travelling via car, train, plane, launch boat, and in extreme cases via helicopter at short notice and the ability to be flexible changing plans to comply with professional circumstances and exigencies.
  • To be up-do-date with and to implement internal technical updates and information.
  • Ability to handle various projects at all levels of the organization.
  • Produces reports (e.g. Service Reports) that must be finished and uploaded two days after the job is finished.
  • Keeps MAN property tools and ensures that they are returned in a good condition.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
  • Files and organizes documents and appropriated folders.
  • Assures to follow internal MAN rules and regulations.
  • Senior Service engineer is responsible for completing the work on time and to ensure the high quality of the service.
  • Is responsible of following all guidelines and compliance policies.
  • Responsible for maintaining a good relationship with the customers and support them.
  • Responsible for technical sharing knowledge to his team.
  • Responsible of submitting any incident, near miss and NCR to the collect system in order to document any safety issue.
  • Support the sales activities and bring technical advice to generate new business opportunities together with the sales team and workshop managers and coordinators.
  • Maintain scheduling tool SEPS updated after returning from job.
  • Support customer inquiries (email and phone calls) when needed, i.e. emergency calls after hours, review data, pictures sent by customer and revert with recommendations etc.
  • Act as project manager on large jobs following the communication protocol OPS-DP206 Large Repairs Job communication protocol which can be found in our IMS system.
  • Support workshop employees’ trainings to improve their knowledge.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment from the customer side and internal is reliable and safe to use for a service job.
  • Share best practices with his team of mechanics before and after any service.
  • Identify any safety risk in the field and report it to customer to get it addressed.
  • Ensure the proper usage of all special tools.
  • Follow technical procedures from manuals.
  • Supervise his team of mechanics to ensure high quality and safety of works done.
  • Document all events and procedures used in a service.
  • Ensure the correct usage of PPE for him and his team.
  • Use the right to stop working when safety or quality of the work is compromised.
  • When job requires more than 12h of work, inform and coordinate with general manager in case extra hours need to be approved.
  • Responsible for tracking all working hours and reporting within the required period.  This is to include hours for any service technicians who may be assigned to various field service works as applicable.
  • Upon completion of service works, senior service engineers are to finalize their expense reports, timesheets and allocations within a reasonable amount of time, and provide it to the order management team for invoicing.
  • Ensure that all expense reports be submitted at least on an agreed periodicity weekly or monthly basis and all expenses are to be allocated accordingly to the appropriate job numbers in the Concur system.
  • Always look at the most economical travel options for the customer, considering, cost of the airfare, traveling time, hotels costs etc.
  • Ensure the usage of the corporate credit card only for jobs related expenses.
  • When tools need to be purchased on the jobs, inform and obtain approval from manager prior purchase.

 

Required Education: One-year certificate from college or technical school or acceptable to meet the competency requirements of education or experience.

 

Required Experience: Four or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other skills:

  • Basic knowledge and interest of control systems and electronic and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
  • Sound knowledge of 4-st and 2-st engines and possibly turbochargers and propellers.
  • First aid.
  • Crane and forklift training.
  • Rigging.
  • Safety training courses.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl, ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in wet, humid, hot conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places.
  • Working in an engine room where other engines are running, and dealing with high temperatures, humidity, vibrations, and loud noises.
