SUMMARY

Under general supervision this position is responsible for the development and planning of the maintenance systems and core maintenance activities and provides technical resources in support of the maintenance group.The Maintenance Project Engineer maximizes the capabilities of the maintenance department by understanding, maintaining and improving the infrastructure of the manufacturing plant. This individual can be responsible for the utilities provided to the plant, the structures, and the contractors that support our projects. An environmental understanding will be beneficial as well to help ensure we are always staying in compliance.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage outsourcing activities & selection of key services contractors and suppliers.
  • Develop & support preventative maintenance training programs related to the equipment efficiency and audit PM content implementation.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance training programs related to the equipment based technologies. Deliver training in areas of technical expertise.
  • Assist in major rebuild, repair and refurbishing projects and defines equipment life cycle and develops plans as they relate to rebuilds, upgrades and replacements.
  • Analyze shop efficiency/equipment downtime and provide plans and countermeasures to increase both.
  • Systematically track all line related downtime to improve efficiency.
  • Conduct breakdown investigations related to extended downtime & maintenance system failures and modify system accordingly.
  • Plan and prepare of product changes and their impact on process, equipment, tooling, in conjunction with supporting departments (Production, Engineering, etc.)
  • Modify and improve equipment standards, Buy-Off standards and Scope of Work standards.
  • Ensures safety standards related to new technologies.
  • Implementation of capital products for the purpose of reducing cost and maintaining existing equipment.
  • Completes authorized capital projects within the allotted budget and constraints.
  • Coordinates machine modifications and relocation activities.
  • Responsible for participating in weekend work activities overseeing/coordinating contractors and supporting maintenance activities on all shifts as needed.
  • Responsible for initial spare parts setup, kitting procedures, and establishing correct inventory levels.
  • Perform/Participate problem solving and the implementation of countermeasures.
  • Develop single point lessons, procedures, and guidelines relating to equipment needs.
  • Write project justifications, development scope of work standards, and project timelines.
  • Prepare formal reports for the purpose of communicating, problem/project status.
  • Plan/manage CAPEX’s and coordinate with the outside contractors as needed
  • Research to upgrade obsolete equipment. Figure out what will be needed to eliminate any obsolete components and compare to equipment replacement.
  • Facility responsibilities can include but are not limited to; landscape, energy conservation, support equipment, HVAC, environmental equipment, fire systems, IT support, production machine movements, building maintenance, and waste water support.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical and plumbing schematics
  • Analyze maintenance efficiency and support equipment downtime. Provide plans and countermeasures to positively affect both.
  • Works under limited supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required

CMMS Maintenance System experience a plus. Technical skills in industrial engineering, understanding how to calculate the electrical load of a facility and provide insight on what is required to meet demand. Demonstrated chemical aptitude in dosing and understanding how to correct environmental hazards. Must have the mechanical aptitude in troubleshooting machine problems and initiating repairs of machines.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Education and/or Experience

 

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and /or experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Industrial equipment and equipment reliability improvement, or production environment.  Must be experienced in project planning and implementation including writing work specifications, negotiating quotes, overseeing commissioning efforts, planning maintenance schedules, etc.
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering applications
  • Proficient in Computer assisted design (CAD)
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure and chemical treatment preferred

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability                                                    

Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract concrete variables.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Visio, Microsoft Project, and Computer assisted design (CAD) proficiency.
