The Registered Nurse (RN) – Per Diem provides patient education, telephone triage, and RN assistance. This incumbent also assesses patient needs, fulfills team patient care needs, acts as a resource to team patient care staff, and participates in departmental support functions. The incumbent is regularly exposed to blood borne pathogens, diseases, and cleaning/sterilization solutions. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager. Practitioner staff may delegate activities to a Registered Nurse that are within the RN scope of practice.

Job Specific Minimum Qualifications

  1. Valid license to practice in the State of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Possession of a valid, Wisconsin driver license; or ability to travel to various work sites. Employee is expected to provide personal transportation. 
  3. Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate is required. Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment.  
  4. Knowledge of scientific nursing principles as a basis for quality decision-making ability required.
  5. Ability to perform a variety of clinical skills which may include but is not limited to IV therapy, injections and wound care. Ability to assist in procedures performed in clinic.
  6. Current knowledge of and maintenance of nursing trends, techniques and certifications required.
  7. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care, treatments and follow-up. 
  8. Excellent verbal communication and listening skills both in-person and on the phone required.
  9. Excellent assessment skills required. Ability to prioritize changing patient conditions required.
  10. Knowledge of interviewing practices and techniques used in order to gather information. 
  11. Ability to maintain quality, safety and /or infection control standards. 
  12. Excellent customer service skills required. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to be culturally sensitive and work with a diverse patient population.      
  13. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and use computer-based applications such as MS Office, electronic medical record systems and scheduling applications. Experience with EPIC is desirable. Must type a minimum of 30 WPM with minimal errors.
  14. Knowledge of medical records and appropriate documentation requirements. 
  15. Basic understanding or ability to learn about reimbursement/insurance practices for medical care. 
  16. Ability to maintain good working relationship with patients and staff required.
  17. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality required. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements. 
  18. Ability to work as member of a team and maintain good working relationships with staff and patients required.
  19. Good organizational skills in the delivery of clinical care required.
  20. Ability to remain calm and be resourceful in emergency situations required.
  21. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  22. Ability to climb, stoop, kneel and crouch required. Ability to bend, reach, lift, pull, push and/or carry up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally required. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time required.   
  23. Ability to talk (speak clearly), hear (conversation), see (corrected vision for near and far sight, color vision, and depth perception) on a frequent basis required. 
  24. Ability to continuously stand and transport, and with occasional sitting required.
