VP - Supply Chain & Procurement
Lumos is looking for a VP – Supply Chain & Procurement as a brand-new position in our senior leadership team! If you have experience as an executive procurement leader, especially in telecommunications and construction who’s excited for a fast-paced experience, ready to help us grow, and ready to recommend process changes that ensure we’re harnessing our technology to the best of our ability while broadening our ability to set up and maintain our service, we want to hear from you!
Empowers and motivates a large team responsible for the complex network of negotiation, acquisition, transport, and delivery of critical materials throughout Lumos’s multi-state footprint to keep pace with all construction, network, maintenance, and operational objectives. Aligns their teams with those objectives, providing the strategic vision and expert guidance needed for the teams to build, operate, and thrive in delivering on critical procurement and supply chain initiatives. Empowers their leaders to ensure ensures all Lumos offices, Outside Plant (OSP) Construction worksites, and warehouses are safely and appropriately utilized, assessed, and maintained on a detailed and strategic basis.

Essential Functions
Procurement:
- Develops and executes a comprehensive procurement strategy in alignment with Lumos’s construction and network optimization goals: establishing and vetting supplier partnerships, driving cost optimization, and encompassing quality, speed to delivery, and cost optimization.
- Leads all corporate logistics activities for inventory values up to $200M annually.
- Monitors spend across departments, vendors, and geographic locations to identify supply risks, mitigate cost increases, and report on budget vs. actual spend status.
- Explores and implements measures to exceed budget targets in collaboration with finance.
- Leads negotiating efforts to identify maximum value and efficiency.
- Ensures external business partners are compliant with established processes & sourcing requirements, and meet delivery & invoicing SLA’s.
Supply Chain:
- Executes supply chain strategies that deliver efficient flow of product across the supply chain from supplier, to warehouse shelf, to end user.
- Develops, communicates, and executes the materials management strategy.
- Coordinates across internal customer teams: Planning, Engineering, OSP Construction, and Operations to reduce total supply chain costs and improve supplier performance.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Partners with internal and external teams to ensure tracking and reporting mechanisms are in-place to improve forecasting, understand real-time supply chain flow, and track adherence to multiple SLAs.
- Maintains strategic analysis and implementation of continuous improvement processes.
- Develops and monitors Key Performance Indicators; leads resultant corrective actions.
Safety, Fleet, & Safety
- Builds structure to evaluate and mitigate operational & strategic risks.
- Maintains safety culture and the programming necessary to sustain it.
- Designs a fleet management approach that maximizes profit and efficiencies – collaborating with internal customers and external vendors.
Team Leadership & Employee Development:
- Accountable for cultivating and leading a high-performing team.
- Selects top-tier candidates, evaluates performance, and identifies training and coaching opportunities.
- Demonstrates leadership and vision managing people, major projects, and initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross-functional projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Proven ability to interface effectively with and present to senior leadership, a board, and a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional negotiation and strategic planning skills.
- Demonstrated success building systems that track and report metrics.
- Proactive, independent, and ability to take initiative to keep teams on-task and on-target.
- Proven business acumen; demonstrated leadership qualities and management ability.
Other Experience & Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in procurement, with significant leadership in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and supply chain management.
- 5+ years’ experience building and leading large, high-performing teams.
- Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with fleet management systems including Enterprise Fleet Services, gas cards, and GPS & associated technologies.
- Ability to travel 20% to site locations.
- Fiber or Telecom industry experience strongly preferred.
- Location: May work remotely in the Carolinas or Virginia; office locations available in High Point, NC, Roanoke, VA, and Waynesboro, VA.
