Training Specialist - Air Compressor Technicians
Summary
The Compressed Air Service Technician Training Specialist will be responsible for refining and delivering technical training programs for compressed air systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. This role includes both hands-on and classroom training for new and experienced technicians. The training specialist will ensure that all service staff are proficient in maintaining various equipment, for a variety of industrial compressed air brands. This position requires excellent communication skills, in-depth industry knowledge, and the ability to effectively facilitate training experiences in both classroom and lab settings.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive training on troubleshooting and maintaining diverse equipment, such as rotary screw and centrifugal compressors, air dryers, and controls.
- Facilitate classroom and hands-on lab training utilizing a variety of training materials and adult training methods.
- Lead training initiatives while mentoring junior technicians. Work with cross-functional teams on strategic projects, and drive alignment between training programs and business objectives.
- Routinely review and refine instructions, methods, and procedures to support the training of the service technician team.
- Track and report KPIs, including time-to-billable status, training cost, and efficiency improvements to align with business goals.
- Partner with internal and external resources to promote FCG’s service technician program to compressed air brands within the FCG Family of companies.
- Supports Sales team with service training for Account Managers and customers as needed.
Training:
- Review, refine, and facilitate the delivery of detailed training material (i.e., PowerPoints, manuals, certification tests, etc.) for service technicians.
- Conduct training to help service technician teams deliver high-quality (installation and) results for service requests.
- Facilitate certification training exams for new hire service technicians and monitor online and hands-on training for new hire service technicians for first 120 days.
- Develop and maintain a detailed quarterly and annual training calendar for each stage of service technician training based off intake evaluations.
- Work with internal and external partners to review and update service training curriculum annually (or as needed) to meet current and future needs of the FCG compressed air academy business.
- Coordinate logistics for off-site training locations for service technicians training classes as needed.
Business Process:
- Occasionally review current success profiles, job descriptions, and other service technician job related documents to recommend amendments.
- Identify detailed market needs for customers by communicating with other Air branded leaders.
- Develop and present marketing material for Account Managers to educate customers on FCG technical trainings.
- Develop a customer training proposal template for Account Managers to distribute to customers.
- Utilizes data to drive improvements gathered from fieldwork, systems, and other data points.
- Occasionally work with cross functional teams to develop technical trainings for customers (i.e., troubleshooting/maintenance for basic equipment issues) in partnership with internal and external partners.
- Regularly present program outcomes and key insights at executive meetings, ensuring leadership is informed of progress and impact as needed.
- Works with cross-functional teams such as Human Resources, Marketing and other FCG Corporate teams on special projects related to compressed air service technicians.
- Partner with Air Service leadership to identify and execute billable service opportunities in key accounts/market to drive additional revenue when needed.
Reporting:
- · Gather and report on key performance indicators for training program, including but not limited to:
- Average timeframe for training
- Total number of certifications per level
- Average number of days for service technician to become billable as a new hire
- Training cost
- Upstart time estimated vs. actual time to become billable.
- Quarterly reporting for number of service technicians certified at each level (with detailed evaluations, scores, and timeframe of test completion upon receipt).
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong technical knowledge of compressed air systems.
- Leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and mentor.
- Strong critical thinking, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration.
Travel: Up to 50% travel required
