Job Summary
The Assistant Vice President – Employee Relations is responsible for fostering a positive working environment by addressing employee issues, promoting effective communication between employees and management, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. This role involves managing employee grievances, handling investigations, advising on labor relations issues, and implementing strategies to improve workplace morale and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations Management:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees to address concerns, grievances, and conflicts.
    • Investigate employee complaints, disputes, and other matters, ensuring they are handled in a timely and confidential manner.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with employees at all levels to promote a harmonious work environment.
  • Policy Implementation and Compliance:
    • Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures, making recommendations for updates when needed.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with labor laws, workplace regulations, and internal policies.
    • Collaborate with legal counsel on complex issues, investigations, or potential litigation cases.
  • Conflict Resolution:
    • Mediate conflicts between employees or between employees and management, striving for fair and constructive resolutions.
    • Provide guidance and support to managers on handling performance issues, disciplinary actions, and employee terminations in accordance with company policy.
  • Employee Engagement:
    • Develop and implement employee engagement programs to improve morale, job satisfaction, and retention.
    • Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and provide recommendations for improvements to reduce turnover.
  • Performance Management:
    • Support the performance management process by advising managers on handling underperformance and assisting in creating improvement plans.
    • Facilitate training sessions for managers and employees on topics like conflict resolution, communication, and employee rights.
  • Investigations and Reporting:
    • Conduct thorough investigations into employee complaints, including issues of harassment, discrimination, or other unethical behavior.
    • Prepare detailed reports and maintain records of all investigations, grievances, and outcomes.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to HR leadership on employee relations trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 7-15 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on employee relations or labor relations.
    • Experience in conflict resolution, investigations, and HR compliance.
    • Prior experience working at professional services firms or other large publicly-held firms
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of labor laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive issues tactfully.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in HRIS and other HR-related software.
