Assistant Underwriter - Commercial P&C
SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting Underwriters in reviewing, underwriting and rating broker submissions for new and renewal business. Ensures content of submissions is complete; obtains additional information from Brokers and Account Managers as needed. Works with Underwriters and markets to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, define coverages, and determine taxes, fees & commissions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reviews policies, contracts and/or programs to identify errors and omissions and discrepancies to insure agreement with application, quote, proposal, and/or binder;
• Assists in Underwriting risks, suggesting rates and premiums based on coverage and performs demographic analysis for new and/or renewal business;
• Coordinates the preparation of policy delivery with all related documents;
• Assists in Underwriting a book of new and renewal business;
• Communicates with markets to ascertain all necessary documentation for new and renewal business;
• Participates in Meetings with brokers, underwriters, account executives and carrier representatives;
• Assists in preparing Renewal Specifications as required by Management;
• Services Account Manager calls, researches & collaborates with underwriters to answer questions; regarding client coverage, limits and deductibles;
• Maintains files for submissions, and written/lost business;
• Maintains client suspense; conducts follow-ups as appropriate;
• Assists Account Managers to resolve complex issues;
• Computes rates and premiums for policies, compiles appropriate declarations, coverage forms, national/local forms, and optional endorsements to complete a policy in accordance with underwriting guidelines;
• Assists in the issuance of appropriate documents and assembling of policies;
• Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information);
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Three (3) or more years related work experience; experience in insurance industry preferred
Requires a valid insurance license; must continue to meet requirements for license renewal
Requires a valid driver’s license
SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good customer service skills, including telephone and listening skills
Ability to perform complex mathematical functions

Ability to work within a team and to foster teamwork
Good planning, organizational and prioritization skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office products
