Underwriter III - Employee Benefits
SUMMARY
Responsible for evaluating and underwriting submissions for all pricing requests, including advanced underwriting and analysis projects. Leads and/or assists in the management and execution of all assigned client projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Competent in all major areas of general underwriting including, but not limited to, pricing forecasts for medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life and AD&D, disability and EAP pricing for both rate development as well as option pricing;
• Competent in special pricing and marketing projects such as: medical network changes, claim re-pricing, disruption analysis, migration analysis, insured to self-funded modeling, contribution structure change modeling, as well as others;
• Meets with Producers, clients, Underwriters, Account Executives and Benefits Analysts as needed to define and accomplish projects;
• Expert in understanding actuarial plan values and how they are used in various pricing and analysis projects. This includes ability to competently use software available for such types of plan analysis and pricing;
• Full understanding of underwriting models and reporting templates, with ability to fully modify and customize to meet customer needs;
• Works with internal staff and vendors to establish project timelines, identifies critical deadlines for completion and performs necessary functions to ensure project completion;
• Assists or leads all assigned client underwriting projects, including the ability to present analysis to clients directly in a confident and easy-to-understand manner;
• Maintains data tracking and reporting for financial management, underwriting models, client reports and other analytical reporting deliverables;
• Assists with the development of new reporting tools and models;
• Competent in multiple carrier data and reporting systems as needed to obtain claim data for reporting and analysis purposes;
• Confidently analyzes and challenges insurance company renewal calculations for fully-insured contracts (Health, Dental and Vision);
• Maintains files and historical data on all assigned clients and/or programs;
• Actively engages in educational opportunities to further underwriting knowledge, market trends and regulatory environment;
• Responsible for accuracy and timeliness of all work performed, including proper management of timelines and meeting deadlines as established;
• Addresses incoming correspondence and responds as required in a timely manner;
• Assists with development and training of other Underwriters;
• Assists with the development of training materials and presentations;
• Peer review of other Underwriters’ work for accuracy and completeness;
• Serves as mentor to Underwriter I and II;
• Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information);
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Three (3) or more years related work experience
Valid insurance license (or must be obtained within 90 days of employment)
Must continue to meet Continuing Education requirements for license renewal
