What is the Opportunity?

The Learning and Development (L&D) Manager strengthens the spiritual development, professional capability, and leadership skills of the global Water Mission staff through the strategic design, development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs and learning interventions. This role is also responsible for the planning and execution of Water Mission’s staff discipleship programs. The L&D Manager contributes towards initiatives that build and maintain a healthy workplace. This full-time position is based in Charleston, SC, and will report to the Director of Culture and Staff Development (C&SD).   

A successful Learning and Development Manager will:  

  • Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public.
  • Work in conjunction with all levels of leadership and subject matter experts to assess staff developmental needs and design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning strategies and solutions that meet those needs. 
  • Support the successful onboarding of new employees by crafting and delivering innovative, successful learning and development programs that help their assimilation into the Water Mission culture 
  • Conduct organization-wide training and development needs assessment annually, or as needed, to meet ministry objectives and maintain a current and prioritized list of training content to be developed.
  • Partner with the Director of C&SD and VP of HR to create an annual content plan for daily staff discipleship meetings and bi-weekly small group meetings. Assign, communicate, and support small groups, leaders, and presenters. Encourage and motivate staff participation. 
  • Partner with department leaders to understand strategic goals, then recommend learning interventions to support their strategic goals.
  • Evaluate and manage resources, both internal and external, to assist in the development and delivery of training.
  • Design and create training materials, communications collateral, and web pages utilizing graphic design and video production best practices and principles. 
  • Educate subject matter experts and business leaders on adult learning strategies and content design
  • Collaborate with the Training and Development Manager to ensure Water Mission’s global learning management system, Water Mission University, reflects current learning interventions and learner records.
  • Manage global People Manager’s learning portal by researching, curating, and organizing tools and resources. 
  • Maintain awareness of emerging adult learning philosophies, techniques, and technologies for a global audience

What is required?

  • Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in human resources, instructional design, organizational development, or similar
  • 3+ years of relevant adult learning, and training experience; global and/or non-profit context a plus
  • Working knowledge of adult learning philosophies and best practices including training curriculum development and assessment
  • Ability to write biblically based devotionals and lessons
  • Experience with content creation tools, such as Canva, Adobe, Articulate, PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to design training and communication materials. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate ideas and feedback in a constructive way
  • Experience with cross-cultural communication
  • Experience working with leaders and employees at every level of an organization
  • Adept facilitator with experience tailoring content and training to meet participant needs
  • Strong presentation skills; ability to present and discuss strategies and technical information in a manner that establishes rapport, influences others, and gains understanding
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team successfully
  • Proven ability to work independently, set strategy, and influence across cross-functional teams to drive results
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally for up to two (2) consecutive weeks, 1 time a year
  • Home internet bandwidth strong enough to support video conferencing and other job-related responsibilities, required 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Commitment to the values and mission of the organization and ending the global water crisis
