Position Summary
The Physical Therapy Aide provides pre-treatment and extension of care services to a diverse patient population under the supervision and direction of Physical Therapist(s) and Physical Therapy Assistant(s). In addition to working to extend patient care, aides assist providers with patient related tasks (scribing, creating home exercise programs, etc.), support the back-office (laundry, room turnover, and other clinic maintenance), and support the front-office (answering phones, checking patients in/out, scheduling patients, working clinic in-boxes, etc.). Aides must engage in and promote positive customer service interactions with patients, clinic team members, and other customers. They must possess and continually acquire awareness and knowledge of human physiology and physical therapy interventions and conduct safe applications of modalities and other therapeutic procedures, as allowed by state laws. PT Aides may also be referred to as exercise specialists or exercise technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interacts courteously and effectively with patients, families/caretakers, clinic staff, and all other customers. This includes effectively communicating in a patient-centered manner, relaying information between provider and patient, and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Performs treatment-related tasks as appropriate and allowed by state law, under the supervision of PT or PTA. This may include tasks such as pre-treatment and care extension exercises, executing patient intake tasks, application of modalities like ice and heat, and real-time scribing for PT or PTA.
- Conducts routine cleaning and maintenance of clinic including, but not limited to, laundry, treatment area clean-up, and equipment clean-up.
- Understands and follows correct procedures for handling biohazardous materials.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient demographic, medical, company and other information. Ensures proper handling, retention, and disposal of confidential documents and adheres to all HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Complies with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements as well as facility/agency specific policies and procedures. This includes following laws and regulations that dictate which services aides can provide and bill for and documenting these services appropriately in the patient encounter.
- Provides front office support and coverage as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, answering phones, checking patients in/out, collecting copays, scheduling follow-ups, etc.
- Supports projects and other designated activities as assigned in support of our mission and core values. These may include clinic marketing/promotion and special project work as assigned.
Qualifications

Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent.

Bachelor’s education in exercise science, human physiology, biology, or general sciences preferred.

Experience
-
Knowledge of exercise.
-
Prior medical office or hospital experience is preferred.

Must be 18 or older.
Considerations for Higher Levels of Pay

Advanced degree (bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in exercise science, human physiology, biology, general sciences, athletic training).

Specialty certifications (exercise physiologist, certified strength and conditioning specialist, personal trainer, yoga instructor, Pilates instructor or similar training).

Extensive exercise knowledge with the ability to teach.

Excellent time awareness and ability to manage and prioritize tasks.

Clinic payor mix and ability to bill for care extender’s services.
