Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Urgent Care Nurse Manager, the Urgent Care Supervisor, RN will be responsible for managing daily staffing plans to ensure appropriate nurse assignments and timely use of bed placement, adhering to appropriate processes for care coordination and transfers to ensure delivery of high care standards while sharing leadership responsibilities. The UC Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the delivery of patient-centered services in accordance with the San Ysidro Health Model of Care designed to deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective care, and improve health outcomes by meeting the population health management needs of the communities served.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily team-based functions according to the Patient Centered Urgent Care Patient Flow model. 
  • Lead care team in the achievement of organizational goals for health outcomes improvement, patient safety, satisfaction, and clinical quality goals.
  • Work cooperatively as advocate to patients and clinical staff to improve communication with providers and other care team members.
  • Follow guidelines to assist in the development of department protocols, policies, and procedures, to optimize outcomes across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate in orienting, training, and professional development of clinical personnel (RNs, LVNs, and MAs or UCTs.)
  • Evaluate clinical competencies on hire, annually, and as needed and complete performance reviews and or disciplinary action as necessary in collaboration with Clinical Services Manager.
  • Maintain optimal staffing schedule by providing direct patient care as needed to support clinic operations as a float or during lunch coverage.
  • Supervised assigned clinical care team; ensuring the delivery of highest quality of care, as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Ensure the staff provides the highest quality of care which complies with the Nurse Practice Act, TJC, federal/state/local, and health plan requirements.
  • Ensure clinical preparedness to meet patient care needs, by overseen initiatives such as infection control, medication safety standards, and care coordination.
  • Maintain continuous audit readiness of staff and clinical spaces, ensuring daily clinical compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Utilize effective conflict resolution technique, while collaborating with RN manager to provide continuous quality improvement measures.
  • Utilizes time management and organizational skills to maximize productivity, while maintaining a collaborative team effort.
  • Serve as the nursing representative at site Continuous Quality Improvement meetings, and organizational clinical quality meetings assuming accountability for identifying, coordinating, and implementing improvements in the nursing and medical assistant workflow that impact overall patient care workflow improvements.

  • Maintains professional growth and development of department through seminars, workshops, and profession affiliations to keep them abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Utilizes and organizes time efficiently to maximize productivity.
  • Works both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Adapts to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed. 

 

Job Requirements

 

Experience Required:

  • One (1) year of Acute Care/Urgent Care RN experience within past 3 years

Experience Preferred:

  • One (1) year of clinical nursing experience as an RN, with direct reports or unit oversight, in an Urgent Care setting.

 

Education Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program (ADN) 

 

Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or Health Care related field

 

Certifications Required:

  • Currently licensed in CA as a Registered Nurse license
  • BLS/ACLS and PALS certification from AHA (American Heart Association) 

 

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job: 

  • Knowledge of current nursing practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are required.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and excellent mathematical computational skills.

 

Equipment Used:

  • Equipment such as computers, copiers, telephone, fax-machines, etc. Medical equipment includes emergency equipment, defibrillator (AED), nebulizer, etc.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Employee will have frequent prolonged standing/walking. 
  • Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.
  • Occasionally lifts supplies and equipment. Handle emergency or crisis.
  • Occasionally one is subjected to multiple calls, and inquiries. 
  • The Employee is exposed to unpleasant elements (Accidents, injuries, and illness).
  • Varying work hours, this may include the weeknights and weekends. 


Universal Requirements:

Pre employment requirements include 1-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
