DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Organize and perform advanced testing, repairs, troubleshooting and overhauls to Tank Farm and Wastewater Treatment systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, IIAR and RETA codes and standards.  Complete repairs and major overhauls to system components, and associated equipment, utilizing original equipment manufacturers recommendations and specifications and/or other recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Conduct various types of tests, monitoring and sampling of the plant’s wastewater system in order to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations. 
•    Assist DAF Operations Supervisor in the supervision and documentation of third-party contractors’ activity and performance on the process equipment.
•    Inspect equipment on a regular basis and analyze system data to determine the need for increased maintenance frequencies or improved maintenance procedures and safe work practices.
•    Monitor operating conditions, meters and gauges consistently to ensure systems are functioning properly.  
•    Collect and test water and sewage samples, documenting and reporting test results as required by DAF Operations Supervisor.
•    Record meter and gauge readings and operational data. 
•    Operate equipment to purify and clarify water or to process or dispose of sewage. 
•    Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds and other work areas.
•    Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations. 
•    Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies. 
•    Follow SugarCreek safety rules and procedures. 
•    Perform other duties and tasks as assigned. 
        
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent (GED); or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of verifiable Wastewater Operation experience preferred. 

CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Medical evaluation, physical examination and pulmonary testing for Hazmat purposes may be required. Periodic testing may be needed when business necessitates (i.e. after exposure to hazardous material, serious health changes).

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

•    Possesses the skills needed to repair, maintain and troubleshoot machinery.
•    Able to use critical thinking to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
•    Able to communicate complex information effectively to other employees. 
•    Able to troubleshoot effectively to diagnose mechanical issues. 
•    Know how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft Office. 
•    Know how to use various machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
•    Able to wear an Air Purifying Respirator and a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
•    Able to respond to emergency situations and fill various roles on emergency response team.
•    Able to strictly follow any and all safety procedures and policies in place. 
•    Able to work at heights and in dangerous places where balance is poor, specifically on a roof.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with wastewater operator positions, including mostly standing/walking required.  Other physical activity like using stairs or moving items weighing less than 50lbs may be required as needed.  Some travel may be required in between plants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Some travel to other locations is required. 

Little work is performed in a comfortable, indoor, office-like facility.  Some work is performed in an indoor, manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery.  Safety wear is required, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, coats and other necessary equipment.  Some work is performed outside of the manufacturing facility.
