Purpose  

To inspect, analyze, perform, record and report all of the necessary laboratory requirements associated to the facilities business.   

 

Areas of Responsibility / Tasks  

Performance must reflect an appropriate level of expertise and achievement of the desired results for the items listed below.    

                 

  • Operate all lab equipment per instructions to perform various tests on material.  

  • Perform daily lab standards, record and verify equipment is operating per internal standards.  

  • Test, record, store and file lab results using the internal material codes. 

  • Test material per the customers testing needs and specifications, such as.  

  • D2A 

  • 6002A 

  • 6002G 

  • AASHTO 

  • 7002A 

  • 7002AC 

  • Perform sample blends based on grams per component, homogenize and test. 

  • Review bulk inventory via e-mail to verify bulk inventory, codes, lbs received and location to complete appropriate documentation 

  • Verify chill water unit is operating within specified range to ensure equipment such as the compression molded press and film line are performing optimally.  

  • Operate injection molding equipment and mold test bars per ASTM. 

  • Perform various test per ISO procedures where applicable, such as: 

  • Melt Index (I2, I5, I10, I21 (HLMI) for PE. 

  • Melt Flow (I2) for PP 

  • Melt Index (I2) for ABS, PS & PC. 

  • Density  

  • Tensile Bars (Type I & IV)Both PE &PP  

  • NCTL, NCLS and ESCR 

  • Perform both room and cold temperature notched Izod per ISO procedure. 

  • Mold specimens per specification for Izod, Type I tensile bar & flex bar. 

  • Operate film extruder equipment to fabricate film from pellets. 

  • Identify contamination other than PE & PP. 

  • All other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Qualifications/ Education / Experience/Knowledge  

To perform this role successfully, an individual must have experience achieving desired result(s) in their areas of responsibility. The requirements listed below are representative of observable behaviors and essential knowledge, skill, and abilities required of a successful incumbent within our culture.             

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in a laboratory environment. 

  • Knowledge of melting points for most plastics. 

  • Ability to differentiate between polyethylene (PE) & polypropylene (PP). 

  • Demonstrated understanding of basic math. 

  • High school diploma or GED. 

  • Basic knowledge of Excel and Outlook. 

  • Bilingual preferred 

 

Work Environment / Conditions

  • This job primarily operates in an office settingThis role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and mobile communications devices.  

  • Must be comfortable working in a shared space, with constant noise, with/or without the use of a private office. 

  • Schedules may vary from week to week based on business demands in excess of 40 hours with or without notice.
