The Golf Cart Attendant provides exceptional service to guests and club members. Responsible for golf cart operations, golf bag handling and practice range services. The attendant will provide support for all individual customers as well as group outings. The attendant must be willing to be part of a team and always display a positive attitude and professional appearance consistent with the expectations of the OVI culture. Must have: Valid California Driver’s license. A flexible schedule is required and must be able to work weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to quickly respond to tasks and duties assigned by Assistant Golf Pro.

  • Ability to maximize productivity when assigned tasks.

  • Ability to be a clear thinker in pressure situations and exercise good judgment.

  • Ability to focus attention to detail.

  • Ability to endure abundant physical movements in carrying out job duties.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of hotel guests and pertinent Inn information.

  • Ability to ensure security of resort property.

  • Ability to efficiently process and prioritize tasks at hand.

Desirable:

 

  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.

  • Ability to communicate in a second language, preferably Spanish.

  • Experience in a hospitality/golf industry in similar position.

  • Ability to provide legible written communication.

  • CPR certification.

  • Previous guest relations training.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the associate occupying this position.  Associates will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor.

 

  • Stock all necessary supplies to ensure a smooth-running operation. 

  • Keep the Golf Stand and valet storage room clean and organized at all times.

  • Keep all golf carts clean and organized at all times.

  • Wear proper uniform and maintain high standard in regards to personal appearance as outlined in the Associate Handbook and Training Manual.

  • Be aware of presentation, body language, verbiage, quality of work, and attitudes around guests.

  • Ability to elegantly serve all arriving guests to the standard outlined in the training manual:

    • The Starter will smile and make eye contact with the guest as they approach within 10 feet of the Starter Stand.

    • All guests will be greeted as they approach within five feet of the Starter Stand.  Always make eye contact, smile and speak in a pleasant, calm voice. 

    • If the Golf Shop Assistant/Assistant Golf Pro introduced them as a return guest, the Starter will welcome the guest back to the course.

    • If the Starter is currently serving another guest they will make eye contact with the approaching guest, smile to acknowledge their presence and return to serving the first guest all the way through to conclusion.

    • If the guest responds that they are checking in for a tee time, the Starter must ask the guest if they have checked in at the Golf Shop.

    • If the guest responds that they have not checked in at the Golf Shop, the Starter will ask the guest for their reserved tee time.

    • If the guest has not yet checked-in, the Starter will endeavor to escort the guest to the Golf Shop.

    • If the guest has not yet checked-in, the Starter will escort the guest up the stairs and open the door for the guest and escort them to the Golf Shop Assistant/Assistant Golf Pro.

    • If all Golf Shop Assistants/Assistant Golf Pros are busy, the Starter will endeavor to stay with the guest until a Golf Shop Assistant/Assistant Golf Pro becomes available.

    • The Starter will politely attempt to engage the waiting guest in light conversation.

    • If the guest has not yet checked-in, the Starter will introduce the guest to the applicable Golf Shop Assistant/Assistant Golf Pro by name and inform the Golf Shop Assistant/Assistant Golf Pro of the guest’s tee time.

    • The Starter must check that the guest is dressed according to golf course etiquette.

    • If the guest is not dressed to standard, the Starter will quietly encourage the guest to dress accordingly.

    • The Starter will escort the guest to their assigned golf cart and ask them if they have driven one before.

    • If the guest responds that they have not driven a golf cart previously, the Starter will give the guest an operational overview.

    • The Starter will ask the guest to confirm that the correct clubs are present in the cart.

    • The Starter will introduce other playing partners to the guest, if they do not know each other.

    • The Starter will point out the scorecard and course map to the guest.

    • The Starter will point out the Pin Location chart on the golf cart.

    • The Starter will point out the current pin location number on the Pin Location Chart.

    • The Starter will direct the guest to the first tee.

  • Ability to elegantly serve all arriving and departing guests.

  • Ability to greet every guest in an upbeat and positive manner.

  • Process rental equipment to departmental standard.

  • Polish golf shoes to departmental standard.

  • Clean golf equipment to standard.

  • Store and secure resort and guest golf equipment to standard.

  • Repair golf clubs to standard.

  • Ability to use the guest’s name frequently during every conversation.

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of golf course. 

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and location of all resort outlets, amenities and features along with hours of operation.

  • Perform tasks in a manner consistent to a high standard of service and efficiency.

  • Maintain valet storage system to standard.

  • Handle guest complaints by following the procedures as stipulated in the OVI training manual and ensuring guest satisfaction. 

  • Maintain necessary communication with Golf Shop via radio.

  • Drive a golf cart safely at all times while adhering to company standards and procedures.

  • Carefully and neatly load and unload guest clubs and belongings from and into golf carts while adhering to proper lifting techniques.

  • Carefully and safely transport guest clubs and belongings to standard, from a cart to the designated storage area.

  • Be attentive to all guests, continually serving them to ensure an enjoyable game.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of The Ojai Valley Inn & Spa’s style, practices, culture, terminology, organizational structure, and general philosophy.  That Philosophy should be portrayed in the professional appearance, behavior, integrity, and openness to guest and fellow associates.

  • Come to work as scheduled.

  • Arrive at your work area at a time listed on schedule.

  • Use telephone procedures/etiquette as dictated by the training manual.

  • Report accidents immediately to your immediate supervisor.

  • Respect guest confidentiality.

  • Train all new hires.

  • Set an example to all associates and management by continually demonstrating and supporting strong client service standards.

  • Any other tasks or duties as assigned by management.

The pay for this position is $16/hour/ Plus gratuities.
