The Massage Therapist provides professional massage at Spa Ojai, and is involved in the operation of the spa and guest service. They will be highly-trained and qualified in the latest treatments and committed to using the purest products of Spa Ojai. They will join a team that consists of highly educated, passionate and accomplished service providers. A successful candidate must possess a current state massage therapist license (CAMTC). 500 hours of instruction from an accredited school of massage therapy, or certified by the American Massage Therapy Association. Must Spossess current professional massage therapist liability insurance, which will be reimbursed by OVI after a successful 90-days of employment. Qualified to perform a variety of massage modalities including, but not limited to, Swedish and deep tissue. Must possess good communication skills (both written and oral) and make the guests feel comfortable during treatment. Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of all guests and pertinent hotel information. A flexible schedule is required and must be able to work weekends and holidays.

  • Qualified to perform a minimum of two massage modalities: Swedish and deep tissue.

  • Ability to work a flexible work week including weekends and holidays.

  • Excellent people skills.

  • Must possess good communication skills to make the guests feel comfortable during treatment.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as memos, communication log, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals, reservation print-outs.

  • Ability to interact and understand clients and employees of varied ethnic and educational backgrounds.

  • Ability to write routine correspondence, request reports and paperwork responsibilities.

  • Ability to deal with and solve problems presented by applying knowledge and expertise.

  • Ability to efficiently process information and prioritize tasks at hand.

  • Ability to make decisions that are in the client’s and spas best interest.

  •  Ability to apply a common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to think and respond quickly to problems at hand.

  • Maintain professional appearance, behavior, integrity, and openness to guest and fellow employees.

  • Be cognizant of all emergency-reporting procedures.

  • Ability to remain calm and courteous in demanding and difficult customer situations.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when business requires.

  • Knowledge of property’s philosophy and practices.

  • Ability to work cohesively with other employees as part of a team.

  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of all guests and pertinent hotel information.




Desirable:

 

  • Fluency in a foreign language, preferably Spanish.

  • Experience in the hospitality industry in a similar position.

  • One to three years of technical experience.

  • Ideal backgrounds include: body technicians, massage therapist, fitness, health care, resort and spa.

  • CPR certification.

  • Previous guest service training.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Attend periodic spa operations meetings and training.

  • Perform all massages and body treatments to the standard outlined in the training manual:

    • The Therapist will greet the guest in an upbeat and professional manner, introducing themselves with a warm gesture (like handshake or bow)

    • The Therapist must confirm the treatment and give a brief description of what they will experience.

    • The Therapist must consult with the guest’s overall wellbeing and suggest an appropriate treatment strategy. 

    • The Therapist must open the door of the treatment room for the guest.

    • The Treatment Room will remain a neat and organized environment at all times.

    • The Therapist will explain that they will leave the guest alone for a moment to undress and prepare for the treatment. 

    • The Therapist will place a wreath on the exterior door handle, indicating that a treatment is in progress.

    • The Therapist will knock softly on the treatment room door, then open the door a crack and ask the guest if they may enter.

    • The Therapist will speak in a quiet, soothing tone of voice and keep conversation professional and minimal.  

    • The Therapist will then perform the treatment in line with standards and protocols.

    • The Therapist must periodically check that the massage pressure is comfortable for the guest. 

    • The Therapist will place the spa slippers on the floor, next to the treatment table, facing the guest as they stand up off the table.

    • The Therapist will raise the lights to indicate the end of service.  

    • The Therapist will prepare a beverage for post-treatment relaxation.

    • After the treatment, the Therapist will escort the guest back to the Serenity Lounge 

    • If the guest is having further treatments the therapist will comment on it.

    • The Therapist must wish the guest a fond farewell, using the guest’s name. 

    • Therapist will clean, sanitize and prepare the room for the next treatment.

  • All treatments must start and end within 5 minutes of the scheduled time. 

  • Maintain a well-stocked and clean treatment environment (massage room, treatment area, locker rooms).

  • Promote the spa and all services and programs.

  • Lead by example and be an effective role model for guests.

  • Perform additional duties as requested by spa leadership.

  • Have knowledge of special events taking place in the spa as well as the local area.

  • Know the details of how each department in the spa operates as well as who the managers are. 

  • Know any departmental policies, which affect the spa and scheduling area.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of property’s style, practices, culture, terminology, organizational structure, and general philosophy.  That Philosophy should be portrayed in the professional appearance, behavior, integrity, and openness to guest and fellow employees.

  • Support empowerment process.

  • Respect guest confidentiality.

  • Read and adhere to scheduled postings in regard to shifts and room assignments.

  • Exhibit property use of product and abide by all product control guidelines.

  • Be aware of appearance, promptness with appointments, quality of work and attitudes with guests.

  • Use computer systems as dictated by the company.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

  • Attend training for protocol and treatment product knowledge and meetings.

  • Begin services at the time appointments are scheduled, and perform all services within the time frame established for each service given.

  • Wear proper uniform and maintain a high standard in regards to personal appearance as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • At no time will the solicitation of gratuities be tolerated.

  • Have the ability to reason and determine when to terminate a service in the event it becomes unprofessional and/or uncomfortable for either party.

  • Arrive at your work area at a time listed on schedule.

  • Use telephone procedures as dictated by the company.

  • Report unsafe conditions to management.

  • Fill out a maintenance request for equipment in need of repair.

  • Report accidents immediately to the Spa Director.

The pay for this position is $16/hour. Plus gratuities.
