Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing is an integral part of the Program and treatment team; directly supervising the nursing team as well as monitors and coordinates the delivery of healthcare services for individuals who are living in community based homes. The Director of Nursing oversees the medical trainings for the Direct Support Professionals to ensure all staff are trained in medical tasks.  The Director of Nursing may also oversee or be expected to participate in nursing and medical tasks across the organization.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $81,000.00 annually.  
 
Essential Job Duties:
1. Serves as a leader within the organization by being a role model and professional nurse. The Director of Nursing must possess excellent organizational skills and leadership qualities and also have the ability to delegate responsibilities.
2. Respond to all voicemails, emails and work cell phone calls daily or ASAP. This may include after hour calls.
3. Ensure any outstanding or questionable issues are addressed and there is follow up as needed.
4. Renders professional nursing guidance to nursing team members in accordance with accepted standards of nursing practice.
5. Monitors, evaluates and supervises the performance of nursing staff– acting as a resource person to coach, mentor, provide constructive criticism and corrective actions when needed.
6. Holds regular supervisory sessions with nursing staff, as well as team meetings to share best practices, policy updates, review OPWDD regulations and any additional supports.
7. Provides education on medical issues and concerns to individuals, their families and employees as indicated on their plan of care and diagnosis.
8. Monitor the medical states of the individuals; adjusting their care and plans as appropriate.
9. Ensures all medical care and documentation is completed in accordance with OPWDD regulations and agency policy.
10. Conducts routine reviews on medical care in sites.
11. Ensures timely, accurate submission of all documentation to support compliance. This includes but is not limited to: oversite, management and achieving effective outcomes for audits, treatment plans, physician orders, and all other associated compliance needs.
12. Review incoming reimbursement requests and act as liaison with outside providers/vendors for appropriate billing/reimbursement.
13. Perform any other duties listed on the daily/weekly/monthly/semi-annually/annually site specific responsibility checklist.
14. Prepares schedules, manages PTO and timesheets for nursing staff to ensure OPWDD standards are met.
15. Schedules on-call nursing coverage to ensure all sites have a RN available to them in accordance with OPWDD regulations, providing back up as needed.
16. Ensures staff in the division have adequate and timely training to provide safe and quality health care (Including but not limited to Medication Administration Training, Nursing Delegated Duties, Health Education, and First Aid)
17. Review medication errors and identify trends and risks across programs.
18. Collaborates with all team members to establish safe environment that provides emotional, psychological and physical support for all clients.
19. Identify any environmental oversight, infection control issues, safety and risk management issues and address with program Director.
20. Participates in committees and meetings as assigned or needed
21. Ensures department and agency policies and procedures and health forms are in reviewed and updated in accordance with state, federal and JCAHO guidelines.
22. Participates in agency wide efforts to improve the health and safety of all staff and clients.
23. Any other duty as assigned by your Supervisor.

Minimum Education Required: 
Minimum Degree Required: AAS /BSN Degree from an accredited Nursing school
 
Minimum Experience Required:  
Minimum Experience Required: 3-5 years Nursing Experience, experience supporting people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities and management experience preferred
 
License/Registration/ Certifications Required:
NYS Driver’s License
RN License

Physical Requirements:
The following physical requirements must be evaluated by a physician prior to entry into a Nursing program.  Upon admission to the Nursing program, you will be required at that time to have a physical and have a doctor complete our required form, as to your abilities with regards to these physical requirements. 
•Strength:  Sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a patient, and perform CPR
•Mobility:  Sufficient mobility to bend, stoop, and bend down to the floor; ability to move around rapidly; and to move in small, confined areas.
•Hearing:  Sufficient to hear through the stethoscope to discriminate sounds; to hear cries for help; to hear alarms on equipment and emergency signals; and various overhead pages.
•Vision:  Sufficient to make physical assessments of patients and equipment.
•Communication:  Able to communicate in both verbal and written formats; and interact with clients, staff, and faculty supervisors
