Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Process Engineer to join our team. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in designing critical facilities for the world’s leading high-tech companies, shaping the future of advanced industrial, semiconductor, biotech, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries. You will work closely with our clients, engineering teams, and a wide range of internal and external team members to ensure that projects meet and exceed customer needs, reliably and efficiently. This role will allow you to bring your passion, expertise, and creativity to projects and clients across a wide range of technologies, industries, and applications.

Responsibilities of this position is to provide technical responsibility for organizing, executing and coordinating complex Process Engineering and Process Utility/Facilities project assignments, and may provide guidance, direction, and mentorship to other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and/or lead the production of technical project plans, specifications, diagrams, drawings, and models that meet our specifications and client needs.
  • Create, influence, and finalize designs involving high purity gas and liquid delivery systems, sanitary and hygienic piping and equipment, purified water and steam systems, clean dry air piping and equipment, process/lab gas piping and equipment, scrubber systems, waste treatment, transfer, and collection systems, Clean-In-Place (CIP), and other specialty process applications.
  • Coordinate needs, designs, and develop an understanding with other design disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Architectural, etc.) and internal fabrication and installation teams (Detailing, Fabrication, and Field Forepersons) for design package needs.
  • Perform field verifications / site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages. May troubleshoot design problems in the field during construction.
    Perform mechanical building and site infrastructure system designs, or oversee design by others, and integrate these to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
  • Lead or be a part of a multi-disciplined design group tasked with designing and developing construction document packages to meet customer requirements, relevant building codes, environmental regulations, safety regulations, and company standards and best practices.
  • Perform engineering analysis and calculations, and develop construction drawings sufficient to define systems for modification or new construction.
  • Perform broad range of process engineering assignments such as creating, checking, and updating PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams), P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), pump hydraulics, line sizing, equipment sizing, and evaluating vendor data/drawings.
  • Writing engineering Bases of Design (BODs).
  • Effectively lead, direct, and mentor associate engineers and designers, with an emphasis on employee growth, project success, and overall performance.
  • Work with Sr. Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders on meeting client design needs to complex challenges.
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from management staff.
  • Provide process engineering construction input and commissioning support for design-build projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and seven (7) years of work-related experience; qualified for licensure in the state of CA
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with designs containing process and mechanical systems such as high purity gas and liquid systems, sanitary and hygienic piping and equipment, compressed gases, purified water and steam systems, scrubber systems, and/or other similar systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with applicable codes, standards, and regulations applicable to federal, state and local AHJs.
  • Experience creating P&IDs and PFDs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with audiences that include management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and field tradespeople. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization. 
  • Attention to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Experience with Microsoft tools - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Resident of San Francisco Bay Area region, able to commute to San Jose office four (4) or more days a week.
  • Office conveniently located within walking distance of Berryessa BART station.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with a design-build company in a process engineering role
  • Experience in the Life Sciences industry
  • Experience in the Microelectronics, Semiconductor, or Battery Technology industries
  • PE registration
  • Experience with PIPE-FLO or similar hydraulic modeling software
  • Experience with Pressure Safety Devices - scenario analysis and load calculations
  • Experience with control valve sizing
  • Experience with use of Bluebeam tools and Bluebeam Session collaboration software.
  • An active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of practice or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of employment.
