Cost Estimator (Manufacturing) - Greer, SC

This position reports to the Director of Program Management and plays a critical in helping Alltrista determine the cost of manufacturing products. The Production Cost Estimator’s primary responsibility will be to analyze production processes (primarily plastics injection molding and assembly), raw materials, and labor requirements to develop accurate cost estimates and project budgets. This role is supported by a standard quoting process, an automated Request for Quote (RFQ) Smartsheet database, a standard Excel-based cost model, and our dedicated Program Management team. A successful candidate is comfortable following up with internal employees from Sales, Engineering, Supply Chain and other key functions to get information needed for quoting and has a high aptitude working within Excel and Smartsheet based forms, templates, and databases.


Primary Functions

  1. Analyze plastic injection molding and assembly production processes, material requirements, and labor costs to develop accurate production cost estimates and project budgets for new and existing products.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to obtain necessary information and data to create cost estimates, including product drawings and specifications, throughput rates, and bill of materials. Functions can include Sales, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Plant Management, HR, Marketing, IT, Customer Service, or business Leadership.
    • Collaborate with the Supply Chain department to obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information for raw plastic materials, colorants and additives, and packaging supplies.
    • Collaborate with the Engineering department to obtain key cost model inputs, such as mold cavitation and cycle times, and to obtain project budget information, such as mold and machine construction and installation costs.
    • Collaborate with the Sales department to obtain the project scope, projected volumes, and margins, and provide final quote outputs for presentation to the customer.
    • Collaborate with the Quality Department to determine process qualification and in-process inspection costs.
    • Collaborate with the Operations department and Plant Management to obtain the desired manufacturing location, direct and indirect labor costs, overhead costs, and any infrastructure improvements required.
    • Collaborate with the Program Management department to refine project scope, obtain project lead times, and make final budget decisions.
  3. Conduct comprehensive cost analyses for various production scenarios, including cost breakdowns for raw materials, labor, equipment, overhead, and other production expenses.
  4. Provide timely and accurate cost estimates to support customer quotes, pricing decisions, budgeting, and forecasting activities.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Great organizational and planning capabilities.
  • 3-5 years work experience. Preffered in a manufacturing, accounting, or engineering environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred (accounting, engineering, business, or program management preferred).
  • Exceptional teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to get things done and meet commitments by working with and through others; requires being able to establish effective work relationships at all levels, internally and externally with customers/suppliers.
  • Must be detail oriented, able to meet deadlines on complex projects and work effectively in a fast-paced quoting environment.
  • Experience in injection molding, part assembly, or other form of plastics manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Smartsheet experience preferred.
  • Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting at workstation approximately 85% of work time.  Standing and walking approximately 15% of work time.
  • Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.
  • Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces.
  • This can be a partially remote position after initial training if the candidate is commutable to Greer, SC.
