Position Summary

The Electrical Controls Technician is responsible for manufacturing electrical equipment.  This includes efficiently installing, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical machinery, controls and PLCs.  They ensure customer satisfaction through prompt and efficient service.   

Essential Functions

  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical components of manufacturing equipment, including but not limited to motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls consisting of but not limited to (4 – 20 ma, 12 VDC, 24VDC, 120 AC, 480AC)
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Understand and make decisions based on technical documents, such as blueprints, schematics, or instructions.
  • Work safely -- Observe safety procedures and meet electrical codes. Safely access all areas of the equipment and have a master knowledge of Lockout/Tagout/Tryout. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team

 

 

Secondary Functions

  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Performs quality testing and inspections.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Uses maintenance resources responsibly

 

Position Specifications

  • Required Education and Experience: 
    • High school diploma or equivalent 
    • Associates Degree in Related Field is a plus.
    • Operations/ manufacturing experience

 

  • Required Skills:
    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills within department and with other internal customers
    • Strong problem-solving skills to include prioritization, organization, and troubleshooting
    • Able to use test equipment like a Fluke meter, or amp meter + Mega.
    • have a working knowledge of regulatory codes including NEC and ARC Flash under NFPA 70E
    • Experienced in Troubleshooting Allen Bradley VFD, PLC and Servo Drives.
    • Accurate data entry
    • math skills
    • Basic computer skills (PC and Microsoft)
    • Strong communication skills are a necessary part of this position.
    • Fanuc Robot troubleshooting and or programming experience a plus
    • Ultrasonic and RF welding techniques knowledge a plus

 

  • Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs
    • Ability to bend, crawl, climb, kneel, sit, and walk (short periods) and stand (long periods of 6-8 hours)
    • Some working from heights using ladders and lifts
    • Hand /finger agility:  grasp, move, adjust
    • Manufacturing environment:  not uniformly heated / cooled, exposure to dust/ fumes
    • PPE:  steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, safety glasses.  Other PPE as required for specific tasks.
