Positions Summary
The Network Engineer II role would be responsible for the networking needs of our Campus and Online infrastructure. This position is critical to the success of our staff and students. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Operations Engineering, they would be part of a growing team of engineers that work together to stabilize, secure, and modernize the existing environment. They will work closely with project management, staff, and leadership to help us reach our goals, innovate, and provide exceptional support to our environment.
Position Responsibilities
- Planning, procurement, designing, developing, configuring, and commissioning networks and associated systems for network monitoring and incident management.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems and determining the most appropriate means of resolving problems and issues to improve network performance.
- Monitoring the overall performance of systems to assess the need for updates, upgrades, enhancements, preventive maintenance and new systems, and recommending options for upgrading and improving the performance of systems.
- Analyzing, evaluating and monitoring network infrastructure to ensure networks ae configured to operate at optimal performance.
- Technical Support: Act as an escalation point for complex issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimizing downtime.
- Network documentation and policy design/compliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and/or [5] years equivalent work experience and certifications
- Relevant certifications CCNA in Routing and Switching, Security, and Wireless preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN communications, network hardware, specifically Cisco and Fortinet.
- Familiarity with dynamic routing protocols (OSPFv2, OSPFv3, BGP).
- Experience with Cisco Catalyst Switch Stacking, both Cisco StackWise and Cisco StackWise Virtual.
- Understanding of IPv4 and IPv6 operation in a dual-stack environment.
- Network monitoring concepts (SolarWinds, etc.)
- Ability to understand, support and communicate senior management goals and decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, synchronous and asynchronous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Familiarity with Windows and or Linux Server admin, traditional on-prem virtualization technologies and related hardware preferred.
