Positions Summary
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the needs of our Campus infrastructure and
is critical to the success of our staff and students. Reporting to the Manager,
Technical Operations Engineering, they would be part of a growing team of
engineers that work together to stabilize, secure, and modernize the existing
environment. They will work closely with project management, staff, and leadership
to help us reach our goals, innovate, and provide exceptional support to our
environment. This role is required to be onsite 3 to 4 days a week in a Hybrid compacity.
Position Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing systems problems and determining the most
appropriate means of resolution to improve systems performance. - Supporting the planning, procuring, designing, developing, configuring, and
commissioning of systems and associated resources for monitoring and
incident management. - Monitoring the overall performance of systems to assess the need for
updates, upgrades, enhancements, preventive maintenance, and new
systems, and recommending options for upgrading and improving the
performance of systems. - Technical Support: Act as an escalation point for complex issues, ensuring
timely resolution and minimizing downtime. - Systems documentation and policy design/compliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology,
or a related field and/or [5] years equivalent work experience and
certifications. - Relevant certifications in Infrastructure and Systems management
preferred. - In-depth knowledge of hypervisors, server hardware, storage devices, and
operating systems. - Physical rack experience with power management, understanding UPS load
and voltage. - Server and storage network understanding, fiber interconnects management
and configuration. - Experience with cloud technologies (Office 365, Exchange Online, Azure,
AWS) - Exposure to enterprise identity management (Okta, Microsoft, etc.)
- Systems protocol concepts (DNS, SMTP, SFTP, IIS).
- Systems monitoring concepts (SolarWinds, Site 24x7, etc.).
- Ability to understand, support and communicate senior management goals
and decisions. - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, synchronous and
asynchronous. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and
resolve complex technical issues efficiently. - Familiarity with Network troubleshooting preferred, diagnosing issues across
all OSI layers.
