Data Analyst III
The general salary range for this position is $84,000 – $101,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Data Analyst III for the Technology & Information Solutions department. Through continuous analysis of all relevant data sources (internal and external), across the entire enterprise of the HSUS and affiliates, the Data Analyst III will design and execute a plan to capture, integrate, protect, and maintain the quality of the organization’s constituent data. More specifically, the Data Analyst III will also address issues of data migration and integration across all systems. Within the role, the Data Analyst III will work closely with the Information Security team to ensure our data is used within the bounds of all privacy laws and regulations. The Data Analyst III also serves as the liaison between data creators/consumers/stewards within and outside of the Technology & Information Solutions department.
Responsibilities:
• Championing data quality, integrity, governance, compliance, and reliability throughout the organization on a global scale by defining and promoting best practices. Defining standards for naming, describing, searching, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, and delivering all constituent data across the enterprise;
• Establishing and maintaining Master Data Management (MDM) concepts across the enterprises’ information architecture to establish a common understanding and vocabulary for data. Ensuring all users are familiar with and adhering to the concept and its requirements;
• Assisting in defining the overall analytics architecture and helping to identify the underlying data to develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and dashboards. Guiding the design of the data warehouse to ensure its effective and efficient;
• Specifying requirements and ensuring successful implementation of all data interfaces across systems and the data warehouse. Defining requirements for data matching and merging rules, survivorship criteria, and data stewardship workflows. Collaborating closely with data administrators to provide backup support using Azure Data Factory for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery processes;
• Working with the Technology Leadership Team and Project Management Office to ensure constituent data is considered in all technology projects;
• Coordinating with functional teams and IT to plan for future data needs and designing solutions collaboratively. Generating data management and integration recommendations for all database applications and projects;
• Incorporating industry best practices into enterprise data structure approaches, tools, and processes;
• Providing subject matter expertise on the enterprise data architecture and data integration implementations and planning and leading data integration requirements gathering sessions with all staff;
• Coordinating with the Senior Manager, Information Services to implement enterprise data management tools;
• Consulting with business representatives in all departments across the enterprise to ensure understanding of the business requirements and future strategic direction of the business/function;
• Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience required;
• A minimum of seven (7) years of direct experience in data, database, and ETL development, support, and operations using Microsoft SQL Server with emphasis on data quality and data transformations, transport, and security and working with data sets relevant to the size and scope required by a large nonprofit organization required;
• At least three years direct experience in data governance, data management and integration design, development, support, and operations with a leading MDM tool suite required;
• Certification or completed courses in Information Design or Data Sciences from an accredited college/university highly desirable;
• Solid understanding of enterprise database architecture and the data requirements of nonprofit organizations of a similar size and scope to the HSUS;
• Solid understanding of the principles of data governance, administration, integration, and modeling;
• Proven experience taking business requirements from concept to execution in a solution that is efficient and delivers expected results;
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems is highly desirable;
• Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities;
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and make quality decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment;
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences;
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies as they become prevalent and widely implemented;
