Job Summary

Primarily embedded at the automotive customer, the Automotive Customer Specific Field Engineer earns sales growth HT would not otherwise have realized.  This can be done many ways including, but not limited to, developing relationships to better understand the customer(s) and their needs, participating in new product development and sales activities, and ensuring good communication and appropriate intelligence sharing between HT and the customer. Initiates, coordinates, and communicates with corporate office while in the process of design engineering new or revised innovative products. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton's customer and industry certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate with HT Sales working on same account(s) for seamless, best-in-class service
  • Work out of a customer product development facility or out of the HT Detroit office
  • Initiate new engineered fastener solutions based on customer input and needs.
  • Participate in customer team product development as requested.
  • Conduct conceptual design and part modeling on 3D solid modeling CAD.
  • Work with corporate engineering to refine concepts and complete finished designs.
  • Follow all procedures (Quote Development Process, etc.) to ensure development process is coordinated with sales, product managers, project managers and engineering.
  • Translate CAD design files back and forth between customers and corporate engineering.
  • Complete design specifications and submit to marketing for feasibility review, in order to initiate new development projects.
  • When required make part and assembly drawings and bill of materials.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality. Check all work under your project responsibility.
  • Maintain any necessary records.
  • Work with HT team designers and engineers in the layout and detailing of designs related to your projects.
  • Where necessary, manage the construction of prototypes.
  • Professionally communicate with customers throughout the development process.
  • Execute. Work with the Project Manager so as to support the on-time progress of each project.
  • Draft and communicate DFMEA’s (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)to customers when required."

Qualifications (skills, knowledge, experience)

  • Associate degree required
  • BS degree in a mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent preferred
  • 5 or more years’ experience as an automotive engineer.
  • Motivated, innovative, stable, self-confident, professional.
  • CATIA CAD competency
  • DFMEA experience preferred.
  • Must be available to travel by land and/or air.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office products.
  • Able to effectively communicate, verbally and written, with all areas of the business.
  • Knowledge of injection mold design and injection molding processing a plus.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license along with an acceptable driving record.
  • Candidates must be willing to train in Milwaukee, WI.
