Job Summary                    
Under the direction of the Director of Automation, the Automation Intern will work closely with a highly functional design group. As an intern, you will get hands-on experience in the design, operation, and controls required for custom automated systems designed and built in-house by HellermannTytons Automation Design Engineers. You will have opportunities to work with design, assembly, and controls engineering. You will have opportunities to design various EOAT's (end of arm tools) for robotic extraction of manufactured plastic parts. This will be achieved by maintaining HellermannTyton's IATF16949/ISO9001 Quality and ISO14001 EMS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.                    
                    
Essential Functions:                    

  • Assist in design of Robotic EOAT's (end of arm tools), and other misc. designs, meeting engineering standards, applicable codes, and customer specifications, and within HellermannTyton cost constraints.                    
  • Collaborate and review with Design Engineers and Director of Automation on custom parts and application in a team environment.                    
  • Ensure conformance to ASME Codes, IATF16949, and company standards for quality and manufacturability.                    
  • Assist in improving design of current and standard automation and components to improve quality and productivity, while reducing costs.                    
  • Analyze engineering drawings and designs to detect errors in the design and/or documents.                      
  • Assist Design Engineers with the Enterprise PDM Solidworks data system usage of vault and control of documents within EPDM.                    
  • Initiate open purchases as well as capital purchase orders as required.                    
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design, and quality problems, and to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and methods.                    
  • Follow all housekeeping procedures.                   
  • Comply with quality and safety regulations.                               

Other Functions                    

  • Assist in the design and assembly of Manuals and operation manuals as needed.                    
  • Wearing your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a condition of employment.
  • Other Duties as assigned                         

Success in this role will require                  

  • Project management skills to assist with managing current and future projects.                    
  • Ensure conformance to ASME and OSHA codes.                    
  • Follow all IATF16949 and company standards for quality and manufacturability.                   
  • Experience with Solid Works.                    

What You'll Bring              

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required                    
  • Enrolled in College courses in Science, Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical) or related field.                    
  • Knowledge of MS Products ( Excel, Word, Power Point, Internet, Email)                    
  • Good Problem-Solving Skills                    
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and follow-through skills.                    
  • High level of self-motivation, reliability                    
  • Ability to work well with others as a team member.                    
  • Ability to interpret, understand, follow, and communicate instructions.
