Position Summary
|
A BIM Specialist I is at the forefront of our BIM discipline, providing guidance and support in the development and implementation of BIM strategies across projects. This position encompasses a range of responsibilities including leading model development, BIM automation, data quality assurance, process optimization and technical guidance.
|
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
|
BIM Process Development
|
- Develops automation scripts and custom coding to enhance BIM workflows and automate repetitive tasks.
- Coordinates kickoff meetings for computational development projects to define objectives and deliverables.
- Supports project teams to identify opportunities for automation and coding to improve efficiency.
- Creates basic data flow diagrams to visualize the flow of information within BIM processes and workflows in a clear and understandable manner to illustrate the transfer of data between BIM software applications and project stakeholders.
- Generates basic data visualizations (charts, graphs and diagrams) to present BIM-related information in a visually informative way.
- Conducts basic data validation processes to verify the accuracy and quality of data within BIM models and databases. Implements data validation checks to ensure that BIM data meets established standards and project requirements. Collaborates with project teams to resolve data validation issues and discrepancies.
- Participates in the implementation of ISO 19650 standards for BIM processes and information management. Once implemented, ensures that BIM practices align with ISO 19650 requirements, contributing to compliance and documentation efforts.

BIM Product Development
|
- Understands and complies with BIM data standards and protocols. Ensures data accuracy, consistency and compliance with organizational BIM data governance and industry standards.
- Creates or modifies asset registers for specified assets on projects using BIM as a starting point.
- Obtains understanding of IFC schema and engineering design schema and ensures compatibility and interoperability between different BIM tools and platforms with IFC file formats.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to implement IFC-based data sharing solutions.
- Applies assembly codes for accurate component identification with industry standard classification systems.
- Creates or modifies COBie data sets for projects.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies
|
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Associate degree in relevant field of BIM (i.e.: BIM/CAD Technology) and 5 years of relevant, progressive experience or 7 years of progressive experience without degree utilizing BIM to produce mechanical and electrical drawings in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or electrical fields required. BIM certificate from an accredited program may be counted toward 1 year of direct experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of engineering design and the A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards required. Knowledge may be applicable to a limited range of practice, project, or program types.
- Fundamental understanding of BIM technology, interoperability of BIM software platforms, computing technologies and industry-specific standards required.
- Basic proficiency with graphical flow diagrams, Python, COBie, PowerBI, BIM Interoperability Tools, IFC, Assembly Codes and BIM data governance required.
- Intermediate proficiency with Dynamo and Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360 required.
- Advanced proficiency with Revit required.
- Basic proficiency with ISO 19650, Excel, VBA and Navisworks preferred.
- Basic proficiency with Imaginit Clarity required; intermediate proficiency preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and software applicable to your discipline or focus.
- High technical aptitude with the ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with designers at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems using reasoning and judgment.
- Ability to function in a highly collaborative environment and in group projects, as well as work independently as needed.

Physical & Other Requirements

- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional travel may be required (10-15%).
