Applied Computing Manager
Henderson Engineers is seeking an Applied Computing Manager to join their IT Team. The Applied Computing Manager is responsible for the conceptualization and process documentation of computational tools and environments that support the organization’s design and engineering needs. Acting as a vital liaison between engineers and the design technology group, they ensure that custom-built tools are designed to align with workflows, resolve challenges, and meet user expectations. In this role, the Applied Computing Manager serves as both a technical lead and subject matter expert, guiding the tool development lifecycle, delivering user training, and driving research and innovation in computational methods.
Minimum Qualifications for the Role are:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, applied computing, engineering, mathematics, or a related field required. Equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 5+ years of experience in computational tool development and building systems design, preferably within an engineering, design, or technical environment required, including 3+ years of experience working with structured programming language for computational design and problem-solving purposes.
- Expertise in tool deployment and platform administration for ensuring user engagement and ease of access.
- Demonstrated experience in leading the full lifecycle of tool development, from gathering user requirements through deployment and ongoing support.
- Proficiency in Python programming for computational applications, including developing custom tools and add-ins.
- Experience in computational design methods and their applications in engineering and problem-solving.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex user needs into technical solutions.
- Ability to stay ahead of emerging trends in computational methods, tools, and technologies through ongoing research.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively train and support users, translating technical concepts into user-friendly instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in Python programming or related computational tools are preferred.
- Prior experience providing training and support for computational, or engineering tools is highly preferred.
Skills and Duties you will be Responsible for while in this role:
Development Environment & Platform Management:
- Establish and maintain a development environment for user built computational tools in Python, designed to meet the organization's specific design and engineering needs.
- Administer and optimize the computational tool deployment platform, ensuring seamless integration into existing workflows and ease of use for end-users.
Software Concept & Planning & Deployment:
- Lead the collection and definition of user requirements for computational tools and custom add-ins, translating user needs into actionable development goals.
- Oversee the problem architecture, UX conceptualization and alignment between user expectations and custom build design software.
- Map design problems to computational approaches to be used in the creation of custom software for use in our design workflows.
Training, Support & User Advocacy:
- Develop and deliver training programs to upskill users in advanced computational tools for problem-solving and design optimization.
- Provide ongoing technical support to users, troubleshooting issues and ensuring the smooth adoption of computational tools across the organization.
- Respond to service desk tickets related to custom design software in a timely and efficient manner, resolving escalated service desk tickets.
- Function as a subject matter expert and user advocate, ensuring the development of computational tools aligns with operational requirements and delivers tangible value to end-users.
Research & Innovation:
- Conduct continuous research into emerging technologies and computational methods, identifying opportunities for integration of innovative tools and techniques into the organizational processes.
- Lead innovation initiatives within applied computing, exploring and implementing new computational approaches and tools that enhance the efficiency and creativity of design and engineering workflows and solutions.
