Lead Energy & Utility Consultant
Henderson Engineers is seeking a Lead Energy & Utility Consultant to join our organization. The Lead Energy & Utility Consultant will provide comprehensive, customer-centric solutions for clean energy programs, including energy efficiency, demand response, electrification, energy storage, renewable energy, and sustainability initiatives. They help clients visualize and identify market opportunities for clean energy programs, collaborating closely to design, build, and strengthen these programs. They serve as a trusted advisor, guiding clients through the shift from traditional thermal resources to renewable energy and storage solutions, considering the impacts of policy, regulatory, and economic factors.
Minimum Qualifications for the Role are:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, architecture, building science, or a related field required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in energy consulting, engineering, or similar roles required, with a focus on energy modeling, high-performance projects, and building certification.
- Familiarity with energy modeling protocols, IECC, ASHRAE standards, and parametric energy modeling required.
- Expertise in distributed generation, renewable energy projects, and combined heat and power systems.
- Strong knowledge of building mechanical systems and components.
- Experience with commercial risk assessment and contract negotiations in construction and operational projects.
- Excellent communication, client engagement, and project management skills.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
Preferred Qualifications:
- LEED Accredited Professional or other relevant certifications (e.g., Passive House, EnergyStar) highly preferred.

Skills and Duties you will be Responsible for while in this role:
Client Advisory & Program Delivery:
- Partner with clients to design and deliver transformational clean energy programs, helping to evaluate and optimize contributions toward climate, energy, and other environmental goals.
- Help clients identify market opportunities and navigate the complexities of clean energy investments and stakeholder engagement.
- Support clients with technical reports, recommendations, and performance insights to optimize project outcomes.
Energy Analytics & Quantitative Research:
- Leverage expertise in energy analytics to assist clients in quantitative analysis, helping make informed decisions regarding investments in energy infrastructure.
- Lead research initiatives to assess market trends, regulatory frameworks, and infrastructure performance.
- Develop and apply advanced models to evaluate energy systems and technology investments.
Reporting, Communication & Industry Engagement:
- Prepare high-quality, insightful reports, presentations, and publications to influence clients' business decisions regarding clean energy initiatives.
- Write and present technical reports detailing analysis activities, design recommendations, and sustainability strategies for clients.
- Stay informed on key market trends, attend industry events, and maintain relationships with clients and experts within the power and renewables sector.
- Implement the latest insights into power modeling and analysis activities.
Energy Systems & Innovation:
- Assess a diverse range of energy technologies, including renewable energy (wind/solar), energy storage, nuclear, hydrogen, and advanced fuels.
- Research new and emerging technologies, focusing on electrification, grid-interactive technologies, and district-scale energy solutions.
Project Management & Process Improvement:
- Manage multiple client projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with objectives, conducting status meetings, and facilitating cross-functional team collaboration.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of project delivery and analysis standards to ensure high-quality work across teams.
- Facilitate regular status updates, team coordination, and quality assurance across project activities.
Building Performance & Code Compliance:
- Coordinate energy modeling and building performance analysis to achieve project goals, including LEED certification and code compliance.
- Review building designs for high-performance integration.
