Henderson Engineers is seeking an Experienced Fire Alarm Designer to join their Venue Sector. A Fire Designer is responsible for designing basic to advanced building systems, preparing design documents, and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and other disciplines. They may support project management activities and are responsible for task management and mentoring of less experienced designers, which may include directly supervising/managing others.

- Experienced fire alarm designer with knowledge of fire alarm wiring design and battery and voltage drop calculations.
- Experienced with NFPA Codes (NFPA 70, 72, 101).
- Familiar with International Building and Fire Codes.
- Must have the ability to train others.
- Ability to work in multiple jurisdictions.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at once.
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards required, as well as a broad understanding of other engineering disciplines.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in the job description.
- High technical aptitude: ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes.
- Comfortability with training others on systems and processes.
- Team oriented and willingness and ability to function in a highly collaborative environment, in group projects and leading less experienced designers. Ability to also work independently as needed.
- Adapts to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software applicable to your discipline or focus.
- Must be a self-starter, proactive and willing to help others as needed.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
Minimum Qualifications for the Role are:
- 9 years of experience without degree required or 7 years with a Bachelor's degree in relevant field of engineering (i.e,: mechanical, electrical, fire protection or architectural.
- (Professional Engineering (PE) license may be counted toward 1 year of direct experience.)
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu required.
Highly Preferred:
- NICET Level III Certification in Fire Alarm Systems
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively advises and mentors less experienced designers and engineers across teams or practices, providing oversight and technical guidance.
- Train, mentor, and provide leadership to design staff which may include directly supervising/managing others.
- Takes responsibility for the success of those under their direct supervision.
- Lead Designers are involved in aspects of business development, corporate operations, and risk management activities.
- Leads project and design efforts from concept design through completion.
- Designs advanced building systems, prepares design documents, and performs engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines.
- Produce solutions to complex engineering problems and complicated design challenges through direct involvement or in an advisory capacity.
- Ensures that production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
- Involved in the development of tools, resources, and company practices.
- Implements and reinforces design and engineering standards at the team or practice level.
- Oversees the quality of projects and designs through the quality review process and regular check-ins. May include providing final reviews for projects under purview.
