Metrology Technician - 3D Scan

Under the supervision of the Quality Supervisor, 3D scan tech performs various duties within the quality department, including 3D scan of castings, tooling, and gauges, dimensional evaluation of scan data using model based software, print interpretation, knowledge of GD&T, gauge calibration both physically and electronically, gauge R&R’s, capability studies, PAPP documentation, and any other quality-based production tasks in a safe, efficient, and quality manner. 

What You'll Do:

• Performs 3D scans based on the priority of production moving through the facility. Scan items include but are not limited to castings, tooling, and gauges.
• Determines acceptability of product by use of 3D scan in tandem with the use of 3D evaluation software. The completion of dimensional analysis by generating dimensional reports that can be shared with the quality and engineering groups.
• Demonstrates understanding of print interpretation, able to translate necessary information from the product print and utilize the information to complete the scan and analysis of the product.
• Demonstrates understanding of GD&T and the ability to correctly complete dimensional reports and analysis of scans.
• Perform tooling PM scans based on shot counts used in both tooling report and ERP system.
• Performs sectioning of castings with use of saw to complete scans of internal features.
• Demonstrates the ability to locate and retrieve the items necessary for the completion of scans. Castings, tooling, and gauges from different areas of the plant will need to be properly identified and retrieved to be able to complete tasks correctly and efficiently.
• Participating in capability studies as needed.
• Participating in Gauge R&R studies as needed.
• Participation in PPAP documentation as needed.
• Additional duties as they may be required.

What We Need from You:

• Minimum of completion of the tenth (10) grade, high school. 
• Training and experience in foundry production processes of not less than one year or equivalent industrial inspection training. 
• Must have good interactive people skills and the ability to comprehend written and verbal directions. 
• Must possess physical ability to move freely throughout the facility, walk, stand, bend, lift fifty pounds on a regular basis, and operate powered cranes as needed. 
• Must be trained in hazard recognition, PPE requirements and use, powered crane operation, and any other safety requirements for employment at Grede – Iron Mountain.
