COST ANALYST

We are seeking a new Cost Analyst to join our team. Your role will be to perform general cost accounting and analysis duties. Your primary focus will be on collecting, analyzing, and reporting on the costs associated with a company’s production processes, including tracking materials costs, labor expenses, overhead, and variances between standard costs and actual costs to help management make informed decisions about pricing and cost optimization.
As a member of the Accounting team you will, under general supervision, in accordance with established policies, perform general cost accounting duties and perform other related duties as assigned. You will report to our Cost Accounting Manager.
Expected Hiring Range: $75,000 - $90,000 DOE
What You Will Do (partial list):
- Calculate and analyze the cost of individual products and outside services by breaking down the cost components of direct labor, direct materials, and manufacturing overhead.
- Be able to work with manufacturing to establish standard cost benchmarks for production process to compare against actual costs and recommend areas for improvement.
- Review job variances monthly, investigating and identifying discrepancies between standard and actual costs, explaining the reasons behind variances and proposing corrective actions.
- Prepare monthly reports comparing department expense to budget, meet with department management to review.
- Must be able to interpret and understand complex, multi-level (up to 7+ levels) bills of material and routings to determine standard costs and cost change variances.
- Utilize data analysis tools to identify opportunities to streamline production processes, reduces costs, and improve inefficiencies.
- Supervise physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
- Reconcile finished goods inventories monthly.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring:
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of five solid years of cost accounting/analysis ideally in a non-repetitive manufacturing environment; Experience working in manufacturing operations highly preferred.
- Must have a strong cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills;
- Sound understanding of accounting principles
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar field, or equivalent experience
- Computer Literate – Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office. Knowledge working with Pivot tables, Power Query, SQL, Python a plus.
- Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards; and
- Additional courses in specialized accounting fields and information systems beneficial.
- Able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with other department representatives;
- Able to structure and organize training programs to meet established goals;
- Knowledge of company sales practices and operating procedures.
