Process Control Operator - Cement Manufacturing

Experience and abilities you will need:
- Two years in the kiln and mill departments with at least one-year of training with the control room operators.
- Training courses provided by the company in the kiln and mill processes.
- High school graduate or equivalent desired
- Basic knowledge of cement chemistry.
- Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
- Must maintain concentrated mental and visual attention for extended periods.
- Good physical condition as position may require bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing, stairs and lifting; high degree of manual dexterity and coordination and good eye/hand coordination.
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check, physical examination, and drug screening in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
What you will do:
Under the supervision of the production manager and/or the shift supervisors, the control room operator must be competent to monitor the control panel and make necessary adjustments to the kilns, raw and finish grinding and the material handling systems. They must be able to perform the duties of the Utility I position and be able to work outside the control room as needed or as assigned.
- Operate kilns and mills in a continuous manner with guidance from quality control to produce a quality finished product.
- Maintain liaison with and provide the information to other members of the kiln and mill workforce so they can perform their duties.
- Take appropriate actions under abnormal or emergency conditions.
- Maintain continuous surveillance of kiln and mill processes during assigned shifts. Must not leave the area until properly relieved by another qualified operator.
- Provide information and adjustment information to the utility operators working in the mill and kiln departments.
- Maintain liaison with quality control to ensure uniform processing.
- Keep accurate, neat, timely records of equipment and process as directed.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs within capabilities to maintain continuous operation and assist in the field as needed.
- Determine need for assistance from service departments (electric, maintenance, mobile equipment, etc.) and request appropriate personnel through the Shift Supervisor.
- Provide on-the-job training to facilitate the training of Utility operators.
- Will perform clean-up and housekeeping functions as assigned.
- Will maintain a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, perform daily housekeeping of assigned area, perform daily workplace inspections, adhere to plant policies and proper use of plant radios.
- Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for plant mobile equipment, lockout/Tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials.
- Ensure quality of work performed, participate in continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
- Will work where and when needed as directed by plant supervisory personnel to meet plant needs
