What you will do:

To serve as a leader in GCC’s US Division safety team, overseeing the continued development of the safety program and implementation of safety practices.  The Safety Director is responsible for providing guidance, awareness and proactive leadership and solutions to ensure safe and reliable operations while acting as a safety change leader, educator, advocate, consultant and mentor. Strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to multitask are a must. Promote the use of GCC of America products through active membership in professional organizations and societies.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise, leadership and coordination of designated business units safety programs; set the vision and strategy for a health and safety focused culture.
  • Effectively motivate people to enlist cooperation in implementing effective safety programs; manage multiple priorities and work with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Act as key contact between the company and various city, state and federal agencies
  • Assure compliance with legal requirements and company policies
  • Direct development, implementation and maintenance of safety procedures, programs, and trainings as necessary to improve the effectiveness of the safety program
  • Ensure that the safety team is consistently assessing and auditing safety and health risks associated with equipment, materials, processes, facilities and job sites.
  • Monitor industry specific issues, concerns, trends and enforcement actions arising in various geographic areas.
  • Recognize and formulate solutions to training and performance deficiencies, and complex operational problems and support the business unit in developing and implementing a viable solution
  • Assisting and at times driving incident and accident investigation with the purpose of determining root cause and corrective action
  • Indirectly responsible for all employee safety at the job sites.
  • Supervisory position overseeing safety managers.

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 40-70%

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • 10+ years related experience.
  • 7+ years’ experience with MSHA, OSHA, FMCSR, or a combination
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have supervisory skills to include planning, organizing, hiring, promoting scheduling, coaching, team building, developing subordinates, conflict resolution, directing activities of employees, administering personnel actions
  • Must be skilled in creative problem solving, interpersonal communications, conflict
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to focus on details and understand the overall impact of events and decisions.
  • Willingness and proven experience in leading, managing and communicating through change effectively.
  • Ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to the safety of our workforce.
  • Must possess intermediate-level computer skills to include proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of software and the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of ES&H tools.
