Job Title: Pharmacy Tech
This position provides hands on support to all facets of the pharmacy operations. This position assists the pharmacists in stocking and assembling medications and communicates with community medical providers in support of pharmacy operations under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist. This position provides administrative support as delegated by the Operations Director and pharmacy specific support as functionally supervised by the Chief Pharmacist.
The personnel of the Pharmacy Programs of St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge collaborate with all St. Vincent de Paul staff by embracing all works of charity and justice. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education, Experience & Training:
· Must have completed and passed a Pharmacy Technician Training Program approved by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
· Passed the technician certification examination administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
· Maintain a Pharmacy Technician certification in Louisiana.
· Have at least three years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician
B. Other Qualifications:
· Ability to use a computer, copier, fax and other office equipment.
· Ability to work cooperatively with St. Vincent de Paul staff and homeless participants to accomplish mission goals.
C. Physical Demands:
· Must be able to bend, reach and stand for long periods of time.
D. Working Environment:
· Small Pharmacy serving the people in need in our community.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
1. Communicates with medical providers, community supports and patients under supervision of Pharmacists
· Communicates with medical providers, community supporters and patients to clarify and understand questions, needs and prescriptions.
· Answers questions within their purview and refers community contacts to pharmacist as needed.
2. Assists in maintaining pharmacy inventory
· Maintains ongoing knowledge of medicines in stock and reports this information to pharmacist.
· Maintains ongoing knowledge of drugs that become outdated and removes them from inventory.
3. Assists pharmacist in preparing prescriptions for dispensing under the supervision of the pharmacist .
· Prepares prescription bottles by typing labels and affixing them to prescription bottle.
· Accurately counts medication for prescriptions for pharmacist approval.
· Fills prescription bottles with correct dosage and amount of prescribed medication for pharmacist approval.
4. Assists pharmacist in dispensing and documenting prescriptions under the supervision of the pharmacist
· Verifies that label information and prescription medication in each bottle is complete and accurate before referral for pharmacist approval.
· Accurately enters each prescription for each client into pharmacy database.
5. Maintains pharmacy clients.
· Screens patients for program certification.
