ESL (English Second Language) Administrative Assistant
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge is seeking a full time ESL Administrative Assistant that will play a crucial role in supporting our English as a Second Language (ESL) program. By working with adult students, staff, sponsors and ESL Instructors, the ESL Administrative Assistant will conduct comprehensive intake and assessments of client needs, maintain enrollment and attendance records as well as develop, monitor and evaluate goal attainment and outcome measures. The ESL Administrative Assistant may serve as a substitute Instructor as needed, assist with English conversation clubs or special topic student trainings., such as technology/digital literacy. This position requires maintaining external relationships and representing the agency to the public. As such it requires a polished, business-like demeanor and professional appearance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or minimum 3 years’ relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Fluency in Spanish and English; both written and verbal
- At least one year of program coordination and/or program management
- Completion of background checks such as driving record, criminal record, and sex offense registry, state and local police records, or national sources such as FBI and E-Verify as required by funding agencies or determined necessary by Catholic Charities and results must be satisfactory to CCDBR, its representatives, employees, or agents as an essential requirement of employment.
- Valid Driver’s license and current proof of insurance required
Other Qualifications:
- Positive attitude with the ability to prioritize and problem solve under pressure and with creativity
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office platform programs and ability to learn case management database system
- Demonstrated ability to relate to people of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as a team member
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to connect families to services
- Experience with resource or content development, knowledge of Canva or other creative software preferred
- Proficiency in Haitian Creole, Dari, Pashto, or Arabic preferred
- Ability to work irregular hours and weekends on short notice
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, speaking, reading, writing, typing, and seeing up to 8 hours per day.
- Occasionally carrying / lifting to 20 lbs., reaching above shoulder level, bending, and gripping/grasping. Frequent repetitive movement of upper/lower extremities.
- Temperature controlled indoor working environment. Fluorescent lighting, occasional isolated conditions.
- When the agency responds to disasters, the employee may be requested to perform duties outside of the primary job responsibilities both in the office and at off-site locations affected by the disaster.
