General Statement of Duties

The purpose of this professional position is to assist the Judicial Vicar, the Director of the Diocesan Tribunal, and other ministers of the Tribunal in their responsibilities regarding marriage cases, especially in the areas of case management and development of related texts. Regular office hours, weekdays, 8:30-4:30, at the Catholic Life Center are required.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred, as well as three to five years minimum pastoral experience. Experience in a parish setting and familiarity working with persons seeking declarations of invalidity or dissolution is most desirable. While a canonical degree is not required, interest in and commitment to the canon law of the Roman Catholic Church is necessary.

Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills, are required. Initiative and the ability to work independently are essential. Any knowledge of Latin, Italian, Spanish and/or Vietnamese will be an asset.

Analytical abilities are also necessary such that dispassionate evaluation of objective data can be made and articulated.

Other Requirements

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, ability to learn new technology quickly if unfamiliar with the Tribunal’s email, internet and software programs, including CaseMaster, and commitment to use these as directed. Commitment to all appropriate confidentiality regarding cases and case files.

Willingness to undertake serious study of ecclesiastical doctrine and canon law concurrent with employment, including participation as soon as possible in (and successful completion of) the summer Tribunal Institute at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, or similar course.

Must personally conform to the marriage laws of the Catholic Church.
