Job Title: Slitter Operator (Helper) – Steel Manufacturing Warehouse

Location: Downriver, MI (Flat Rock, Riverview, Gibraltar)

Rate: Starting at $17+

 

Position Overview:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Slitter Operator Helper to support slitting operations in our steel manufacturing warehouse. This role assists in producing high-quality steel products by ensuring that material is slit, banded, and packaged to exact customer specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with heavy machinery, a strong understanding of steel processing, and a proactive approach to safety and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in slitting various gauges, widths, and types of steel while maintaining precise gauge and width control.
  • Ensure coils are properly slit, banded, and packaged according to customer specifications.
  • Monitor material during operations, identifying and addressing defects promptly.
  • Review work orders to confirm correct material, instructions, and specifications are followed.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently, with an understanding of machine functions.
  • Unload slitter, tie up scrap, and empty scrap winders as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the shift foreman.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience in identifying steel defects and addressing issues while the machine is running.
  • Familiarity with heavy machinery and its safe operation.
  • Basic computer knowledge for tracking and verifying tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in measurements and processes.
  • Proficiency in reading tape measures and converting decimals to inches.
  • General mathematical skills for accurate calculations and measurements.
  • Knowledge of various steel types and strengths processed in the facility.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Basic safety knowledge and commitment to working in a safe manner.
