Electrical & Control System Technician
Position Overview:
The Electrical and Control System Technician is responsible for the fabrication, repair, maintenance and installation of the plant’s electrical and control systems and processes. They will perform daily preventative maintenance on the plant’s equipment and facilities. This individual will have the ability to read and interpret drawings, ladder logic, blueprints, schematics and specifications in order to provide troubleshooting and repair services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that safety policies, housekeeping rules and guidelines, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed.
- Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, PLC devices and equipment.
- Design, build, bench test and install electrical panels and PLC controllers.
- Read and interpret drawings, ladder logic, blueprints, electrical code specifications and schematics in order to effectively troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment.
- Diagnose, locate the cause of, and repair malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment and components.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Direct and train other workers and apprentices to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Work on other electrical/PLC projects as required.
- Generate electrical/PLC schematics and programs.
- Ensure all work performed adheres to all relevant organizational, state and federal safety regulations, codes and specifications.
- Complete all paperwork as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- State Electrical Certification – Electrician or Certified Technician (Electrical / Instrumentation)
- PLC maintenance troubleshooting and programming skills (Allen Bradley)
- Practical experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), DC Drives, Servo Controls, Pneumatics, Ethernet I/O and Power Distribution Systems.
- Sound Instrumentation knowledge
- 2 to 3 years practical experience in the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation field.
- High level of PLC and VFD maintenance troubleshooting skills, and basic programming skills.
- Strong mechanical background is an asset.
- Strong personal Computer skills - working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Capability to read, interpret and utilize blueprints and drawings
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals and specifications.
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safe operating procedures.
- Self-starter, with developed analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs frequently
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs occasionally
- Continuous standing
- Use of hands and feet to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, controls, press buttons, levers and pedals
- Bending, twisting and reaching
- Repetitive movement
- Frequent walking
- Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves and any other protective equipment deemed necessary.
- Work indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions
