Parent Educator - Advocate

*This role is bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English. A test will be administered prior to employment.

 

As a Parent Educator - Advocate, you will work closely with Child Welfare Services (CWS) and Department of Social Services (DSS) Employment Resource Specialists to support families in need. You will conduct home visits (in person or via Zoom) to assess family needs, develop case plans, and provide services that help create a safe, stable, and healthy environment for children. Your role will involve maintaining open communication with CWS and DSS, conducting family assessments, and assisting with case plan development. You will also be responsible for maintaining program documentation and monitoring family progress.

 

What we are looking for in the ideal candidate:

  • Parent/Educator Advocate I: BA/BS in Child Development, Human Services, Family Studies, Sociology, Psychology, or related field and one year of experience in a social services setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Parent/Educator Advocate II: BA/BS in relevant fields and two years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Parent/Educator Advocate III: Master's Degree in relevant fields and three years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • All levels: Has a dependable, insured transportation and valid California driver’s license (mileage to be reimbursed) and acceptable driving record.  A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.

As the Parent Educator - Advocate you will:

  • Conduct home visits and complete intake paperwork.
  • Assess family needs and develop case plans.
  • Maintain case files and documentation.
  • Provide up to 8 parenting sessions using evidence-based curriculum.
  • Coordinate services and resources for families.
  • Advocate for families with community service providers.
  • Attend trainings and workshops to enhance case management skills.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual  orientation, disability or socio-economic level.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. 
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
  • Based on the program, a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray may be required. 
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable job requirements and background requirements. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment. 
  • Upon hire, agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Agency staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
