Assistant Pastry Chef

Responsibilities:
- Assist the Pastry Chef with daily operations and act as the point of contact in their absence.
- Bake and prepare pastry items according to specifications and recipes, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Monitor wastage and ensure tasks are completed within the given time to meet strict production deadlines.
- Report to the Sous Chef, providing updates on team performance and operational needs.
- Motivate and guide team members, ensuring all workstations are clean and organized.
- Participate in on-the-job training and provide support to team members, ensuring high standards of productivity and quality.
- Comply with all food safety and hygiene regulations as outlined in the food safety management system handbook.
- Report any issues with the food safety management system to the manager and hygiene and food safety team.
- Ensure adequacy of supplies at cooking stations and follow storage guidelines according to food safety standards.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative team environment, supporting smooth kitchen operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in pastry or bakery, ideally in a high-volume production environment.
- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or a related field is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of baking ingredients, measuring techniques, mixing methods, kitchen equipment, and baking times.
- Proactive and highly organized, with excellent self-management skills.
- Proven ability to handle a substantial workload while maintaining efficiency under pressure.
- Capable of working independently and within a team-oriented environment.
- Strong time management, ensuring timely completion of tasks while meeting strict deadlines.
- Ability to accurately monitor and reduce wastage.
- Flexible availability to work various shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Solid knowledge of food safety standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
