Role:  Money Management Specialist
Reports to:  Manager
Department: Member Services
Location:  The Village: 527 Crocker St. Los Angeles, CA 90013
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Status: Full Time/non-management/non-exempt

SUMMARY:
The Money Management Specialist I will work closely with Advocates, outside agency Case Workers, Social Security and Directors to provide both financial management assistance and benefits linkage to program participants. This position will assist program participants with obtaining and maintaining benefits through the Social Security Administration and will provide money management services to program participants on a daily basis.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure strict compliance with all relevant laws and regulations including agency accounting policies and procedures

2. Perform all duties pertaining to Money Management in a timely, professional, and organized manner, including:

·       daily disbursement at scheduled hours

·       balancing

·       data entry into Quick Books

·       process check requests and automatic deductions as needed and agreed

·       process monthly account fees

·       communicate account information with internal and outside agencies when and as needed

3. Communicate all matters to supervisor pertaining to banking (e.g., report lost checks, process voided checks, ensure availability of proper levels of bank supplies, etc.)

4. For each enrolled program participant, create and maintain in a timely, professional, and organized manner:

·       a. Money Management file, which will include copies of the Money Management Agreement, Information Sheet, Benefit Assistance Referral (if applicable)

·       b. Complete records of all checks disbursed and receipts received for purchases

5. Promote Money Management services by presenting program information to agency program participants

6. Assist and deliver information to staff related to SSA and Money Management forms and procedures

7. Prepare monthly program reports for Money Management services by the 5th of each month

8. Accurately document all program participant services rendered on a weekly basis by entering them in the database in a timely and accurate manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred

2. Working knowledge of mental health and medical health terminology and abbreviations

3. Computer proficient, including familiarity with Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point and QuickBooks

4. Strong knowledgeable of the policies and procedures of the banking process

5. Valid CA Driver’s license, reliable car, auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record

6. Detail oriented with excellent time management, interpersonal, organizational, written, verbal, and follow-through skills

7. Able to learn quickly and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and with minimal supervision

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience working with homeless individuals, preferably those living with mental illness and/or substance addictions

2. Able to read medical charts and mental health records


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1. Combination of field and office environment

2. Regularly required to walk or drive to different local sites throughout the day

3. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend and occasionally lift or carry up to 35 pounds

4. May necessitate working in busy and loud environments

5. May be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor

6. May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
