What is the opportunity?

The Senior Regional Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Specialist, Latin America, will lead and enhance our MEL practices in the Latin America region. This regional position is pivotal in ensuring effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning across all existing and future Latin American programs. This full-time position reports to the Global MEL Manager in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, and is based remotely in any of Water Mission’s Latin American program countries: Honduras, Mexico, or Peru. English and Spanish fluency are required.

 

A successful Senior Regional MEL Specialist, Latin America, will:

 

Christian witness:

  • Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public.
  • Engage and participate in prayer before and after team meetings.
  • Lead and participate in biblically based staff devotions.

MEL Strategy Development: 

  • Design and implement comprehensive MEL strategies aligned with Water Mission’s goals and objectives for the Latin America region.
  • Contextualize MEL plans to contribute to organizational learning and program improvement. 

Data Management: 

  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and dissemination of both quantitative and qualitative data related to program performance and impact.
  • Develop and maintain robust data management systems to ensure data integrity and accessibility. 

 

Data Collection Oversight and Implementation: 

  • Ensure timely and thorough completion of data collection activities, including the provision of support in recruiting and training enumerators.
  • Establish data quality assurance processes that ensure accuracy and attainment of data collection objectives. 

Data Analysis, Visualization, and Reporting: 

  • Lead the analysis and presentation of monitoring and evaluation data to key internal and external audiences.
  • Prepare comprehensive, data-driven MEL reports that meet both internal and external requirements, and communicate insights and lessons learned to inform future program strategies.

Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with national and regional partners, government entities, and community organizations to enhance MEL practices.
  • Represent Water Mission at relevant conferences and workshops, promoting best practices in MEL. 

Capacity Building: 

  • Train and support local staff and partners on MEL methodologies and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of learning and adaptation within project teams regarding MEL processes. 

Project Management: 

  • Manage multiple simultaneous MEL projects, ensuring that timelines, objectives, and deliverables are met.
  • Coordinate resources and stakeholders effectively to ensure successful project execution and alignment with organizational goals.

What is required?

  • Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., international development, public health, social sciences) preferred; significant relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning within an international development context, preferably in the water and sanitation sector.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (C1) and Spanish (C1).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing MEL frameworks and tools.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, Excel) and data presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated capacity to navigate complex challenges, ensure precision in tasks, and efficiently balance competing priorities.
  • Passion for humanitarian work and ability to collaborate effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Ability to travel 15-20% to the US and within the Latin American region, varying from 1-3 weeks in length.
  • Home internet bandwidth strong enough to support video conferencing and other job-related responsibilities.
  • Legal authorization to work in Honduras, Mexico, or Peru without sponsorship.
  • Commitment to ending the global water crisis.
