Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Childcare and Recreation Specialist
The Childcare and Recreation Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of childcare and recreation activities, classroom operations and programming appropriate for the client population.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree and one year of relevant experience with a similar population or high school diploma or GED with at least two years relevant experience.
Childcare and Recreation Specialist Principal Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement, and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs. Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing clients motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills.
- Coordinate programs with Case Managers to facilitate success of enrichment sessions.
- Develop contacts with various sources for off-site activities.
- Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
- Assist in creating an instructional environment that fosters learning and growth.
- Assist in classroom activities on a daily basis.
- Help to evaluate the student progress on an ongoing basis, maintaining necessary records.
- Provide aftercare to clients in the program.
